Belize Weather Forecast: March 21, 2018

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Light and relatively dry east-northeasterly airflow will prevail today.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Sunny with cloudy spells today and cloudy at times tonight. Showers will be isolated today, then a few showers affect the north late tonight.
Winds: East-Northeast | 5-15 kts

General Outlook: Cloudy with a few showers over most areas during Thursday, then mostly over the south Thursday night.

...The Caribbean Sea...

Undersea volcano Kick'em Jenny, north of Grenada near 12.18N 61.38W, is in a state of unrest. The government of Grenada advises mariners to observe a 5 km or 3.1 nm exclusion zone around Kick'em Jenny. Please refer to the webpage, www.nadma.gd, for additional information.

A surface ridge anchored over the central Atlantic extends across the basin. A 1006 mb low is centered over north Colombia. The resultant surface pressure gradient will support fresh to locally strong trade winds across the south central Caribbean Sea during the next several days. Winds will reach near-gale force along the northwest coast of Colombia during the overnight hours.

A cold front will approach the Yucatan Channel tonight and enter the northwest Caribbean through the day enhancing winds/seas. The front will then become stationary and dissipate through the next few days.

Marty OP	from Elbert... On Ambergris Caye this morning the NE breeze is calming the sea around our Barrier Reef. It's sunny and our expected high is 86 f.

Marty OP	From Belmopan... Three levels of cloud around our area. There is low-level fog, now lifted above the ground, then there is Caribbean easterly lines of cloud coming in over north Belize from the east, but turning southwards over southern Belize. This is being joined by other cloud coming down over Guatamala from the north. Then there are two streams of high-level cloud, one over Honduras and out into the Caribbean, the other over northern Yucatan and includes a cold front, yet last night was one of the warmest nights of the year. Looks like today will be a mixture of cloud and hazy sunshine, no rain around, could be some this evening.
