Last Feb we stayed at Belizean Shores and will be returning next Feb. The nice paved road ended at Belizean Shores resort and then was very rough going north. Does anyone know if they fixed the road north? We'd like to go to the Rojo Lounge and other places north on the road.

You will be able to go to Rojo, Portofino, Mata Chica and points north without problems. We have some potholes from the rain but nothing really bad.

The really bad section about 1/2 a mile north of Belizean Shores has been fully repaired and is no longer an off-roading experience through a mud bog.

Typically what I do is drive down a road and if I encounter an impassable spot I just turn around.

Yes we did that last year, but thought we missed a lot not going further north.

Paved portion of Northern Road now has LIGHTS!

Let there be LIGHT! The paved section on the northern road of Ambergris Caye is now lit! Work on the installation of these LED lights began on Thursday by the Belize Electricity Limited and have covered majority of the paved road. Looks great so far!

Repair Work Starts on the Road, North Ambergris Caye

As you head north from San Pedro townover the bridge the road is paved for about 3.5 miles. And then unpaved.

Over the past yearthrough the rainy seasonand traffic, including the non-stop (from 6am to 5pm) running of dump trucks from the quarry to townthe road has become bad. And then it became worse.

And then it became a chiropractic situation.

Our daily golf cart jaunt from our home at 7 miles north to San Pedro town turned into a MAJOR grind. 30 minutes turned into almost an hour with jagged rocks exposed and deepening holes.

Butjust two days agoREJOICE! The grader is here. The road roller is here. And in the two days that it has been working, it has smoothed the road between Belizeans Shores, passing Las Terrazas Resort and is already up to Portofino.

PLEASE put light guards/shields on these lights! Points the light down toward the road, where it needs to be for visibility and safety, and NOT going pointlessly out and up into the sky.
