A fairly dry weather pattern remains in place, with upper level ridging extending northwestward over the basin from South America with strong subsidence noted across the eastern Caribbean. Low pressure systems moving eastward from the southern U.S. into the western Atlantic continue to weaken the ridge north of the area. Highest seas are 5 to 8 ft are near the coast of Colombia, and only subtle changes in the prevailing weather pattern are expected during the next several days. Seas will briefly build to 8-10 ft near the coast of Colombia this morning as the ridge to the N builds slightly and low pres over S America deepens. On Ambergris Caye this morning the wind is from the E-SE at 10 mph. The sea around our Barrier Reef is choppy. The expected high for today is 88f.

From Belmopan...

The easterly Caribbean winds are still blowing over north Belize, but there is some other air coming over southern Belize from the NW, and the high-level is still patchy from the SW. There is now a lot of smoke in the atmosphere over the Caribbean and the Atlantic between South America and Africa. This smoke in the air is making the Sun oranger than it is normally and making it feel hotter and more humid than it is. It has been pushing our temperatures up close to the summer temperatures, including the night time temperatures.

Looks like today will be sort of sunny but with smoke haze and white clouds building, no rain expected, but there might be some ITCZ type swell-ups and possibly some thunderstorm rain this afternoon, just a possibility.

The Cloud & Rain pictures. A very significant ITCZ type swell-up has occurred in Guatamala, and the high-level SW wind is seriously activating it and bringing its effects over south, central Belize right now, causing rain in the mountains. The rain is not exactly moving, but the high-level has been causing other rain outbreaks nearer to Belmopan to break out. There is now lightning and thunder with some of that activity. This is not true ITCZ activity, I will explain that later, nearer the time when we are getting true ITCZ activity near to Belize in May.
