Top-4 teams set for PLB playoffs, Pirates eliminated

The hottest race to the playoffs in recent memory was finally decided yesterday in Week 13 games of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2017-2018 Closing Season, where Freedom Fighters stopped the San Pedro Pirates in P.G., to effectively knock both of them out of playoff contention, since Police United got a goal in injury time from veteran star Orlando "Leechi" Jimenez, to clinch the 1-nil victory over BDF FC and secure their spot in the playoffs. With the San Pedro loss, a draw would have still given Police a playoff spot due to their edge in goal difference over both Freedom Fighters and San Pedro Pirates, should either win their remaining Week 14 game.

On Sunday, at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda, the surging Freedom Fighters FC proved that they are for real and looking ahead to next season, when they stopped visiting San Pedro Pirates FC, 2-1, with goals from Alexander "Pleck" Peters (44') and Zidane Hines (91'). Gabriel Chavez (47') scored for San Pedro, whose playoff hopes were dashed with the loss.

Week 14 schedule:
Sunday, April 15
4:00 p.m. - BDF FC vs Belmopan Bandits SC - MCC Grounds
4:00 p.m. - Verdes FC vs Police United FC - Norman Broaster Stadium
4:00 p.m. - Wagiya FC vs San Pedro Pirates FC - Carl Ramos Stadium
4:00 p.m. - Freedom Fighters FC vs Placencia Assassins FC - Victor Sanchez Union Field

San Pedro Pirates' controversial 2018 PLB season ends

With their loss to Freedom Fighters on Sunday, April 7th, the San Pedro Pirates Football Club road in the closing season of the Premiere League of Belize (PLB) has come to an end. However, founder of the San Pedro Pirates F.C, Emeliano Rivero is alleging bias and unfair practices by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) and the PLB against his football club. In an interview with The San Pedro Sun stated that during the PLB season, every time the Pirates hosted a team at home, the FFB required a total of $1,000 dollars to be given towards transportation expenses for the visiting team. However, he alleges that FFB didn't make the same stipulations in return from other teams when the Pirates had to travel. "I have never received any financial assistance from them at all," said Rivero.

Rivero further states that each team is entitled to bring in five foreigner players, with the stipulation that a special training is completed before the teams can be eligible to trade and import players. He alleges that the FFB has not provided him with that training, and as such, he cannot trade or hire foreign players for his team. "I have been asking the FFB for the and up to now I have not received a response," said Rivero." That's why I decided to make public all the issues that the club is going through to our fans because I'm tired." A frustrated Rivero feels the actions taken by the FFB against Pirates Inri Gonzaga on Sunday, March 18th, was extremely unfair and shows bias against his club.
