Martin Dawson’s MMA Pit Fighters Gaining International Recognition
It has been less than a year since island resident Martin Dawson officially opened his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training school, and in that short time, the school has grown by leaps and bounds, attracting local and international attention. Dawson’s MMA training school, ‘Pit Fighters,’ teaches all aspects of the sport, self-defense, jiu-jitsu, tactics, and techniques. San Pedro Pirates’ controversial 2018 PLB season ends
With their loss to Freedom Fighters on Sunday, April 7th, the San Pedro Pirates Football Club road in the closing season of the Premiere League of Belize (PLB) has come to an end. However, founder of the San Pedro Pirates F.C, Emeliano Rivero is alleging bias and unfair practices by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) and the PLB against his football club. In an interview with The San Pedro Sun stated that during the PLB season, every time the Pirates hosted a team at home, the FFB required a total of $1,000 dollars to be given towards transportation expenses for the visiting team. However, he alleges that FFB didn’t make the same stipulations in return from other teams when the Pirates had to travel. “I have never received any financial assistance from them at all,” said Rivero.

Dangriga’s Vital Role in Belize’s Health Care System
Garifuna drumming and culture is one of the first things that comes to mind when people think about Dangriga. This city which is the capital of the Stann Creek district is also home to a very important place that very few people know exists, the Belize Cancer Centre Dangriga (BCCD).
The BCCD plays a vital role in Belize’s health care system and offers a lifeline for those diagnosed with cancer. The charitable, donation-based organization opened its doors in 2008 and it is the only hematology-oncology center in the country. The cancer center accepts patients from anywhere in Belize and they also work with patients countrywide who want to return home but need to continue chemotherapy treatments.
The center staff consists of three full-time employees, occasional volunteer physicians and is overseen by an oncologist from Los Angeles who comes down every two-three months.
Weekend Update: A Mega-Yacht, an Awful, Island-Changing Development Approved and More
A source that would like to remain unnamed sent me some photos. A HUGE yacht called the Romea anchored off the coast of Belize last week – at exactly the same time that Bill Gates was spotted playing tennis on Ambergris Caye.
While the Romea has 4 jet skis, a limo tender*, tons of SCUBA gear and LOTS more amenities, she does NOT have a helicopter pad which makes me think this must be another super wealthy visitor to Belize and not Mr. Gates.
40+ OVER THE WATER CABANAS APPROVED AT CAYO ROSARIO:
The west coast of Ambergris Caye is most famous for Secret Beach, the crystal clear water and the fly fishing flats that support a large industry on our island.

Guatemala votes on sending Belize territory dispute to International Court of Justice
Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales has called on the Latin American country's 7.5 million eligible voters to take part in a referendum on Sunday on whether the International Court of Justice (ICJ) should rule on a 200-year-old border dispute with neighboring country Belize.
A final resolution could see Guatemala, a former Spanish colony, gain legal control over territory and waters currently administered by Belize, once a British colony. The disputed area covers some 12,270 square kilometers (4,737 square miles) — about half of Belize.
The referendum is the result of a 2008 accord that would see the dispute over mainland, island and maritime territory sent to the court in The Hague, if the populations of Guatemala and Belize approve.
13 places with the bluest water in the world
Sometimes all it takes to re-center and refresh your mind and body is a good day (or week — who are we to limit you) staring off into a tranquil blue sea.
To help you find your inner peace, and catch a few waves and rays while you're at it, we've put together a list of some of the bluest waters in the world. These lakes, seas, beaches, and bays have vistas that range from brilliant navy blues to the lightest, clearest turquoises imaginable. Needless to say, they are the perfect places to re-connect with nature, family, and yourself.
A short boat ride from the largest barrier reef outside of Australia, Belize's Ambergris Caye is a scuba diver's and snorkeler's paradise. Head to Shark Ray Alley to snorkel among nurse sharks and stingrays; visit Hol Chan Marine Reserve to get up close with eels, turtles, and colorful fish; or explore the underwater caves of Blue Hole. When you're not in the water, admire its warm glow from a hammock on the beach.
