The Cloud picture.
Frequently I have been seeing a line of Caribbean cloud develop of the NE point of Honduras and form a line of cloud across the Caribbean to Belize. This morning that line was more pronounced and curved upwards, indicating there is warm air movement coming off Honduras and pushing the Caribbean cloud up northwards. The normal low level 1,000 - 3,000 Caribbean white clouds are in white arrows, the high level 10,000 feet or higher are in orange arrows, so yellow arrows indicate some other air movement, at usually an unknown height.

Large areas of ITCZ type swell-ups developing along the Pacific coast of southern Mexico and Guatamala, now starting to cause rain there, but the high clouds are now moving towards Belize. The normal easterly Caribbean white clouds are now being stopped in their tracks, and will be reversing, particularly in north Belize, later this afternoon. Not clear yet if this will result in rain getting to Belize, no indication of that yet, but things are changing rapidly.

There is a small swell-up now developing over the Belize mountains and resulting in some rain up there. There is the chance of an isolated thunderstorm over the maya mountains in late afternoon, and then the chance of a few showers over the north tonight.

From these rain clouds, it would appear the rain season is starting in this part of the world. Well probably not, there is always the probability of significant rain during the dry season, and this is probably mainly that. But it was mixed with north and south moving air masses, hence that occluded front and very significant Pacific air coming in and up over the western mountains. This does mean that Belize could get some rain in May, but probably, if any, somewhat erratic. The rainy season proper for Belize is still about 3 -5 weeks away, but we could get some rain in that time. ...Couple hours later... There is significant rain in the north of Belize and looks like there may well be some coming into Cayo.
