Mother's Day 2018 Extravaganza!

The San Pedro Town Council and Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. present its Mother's Day 2018 Extravaganza!

This year's line up includes Mérida's popular comedian, Nani Namu, Cayo's Ismael Chacon as El Buki and our very own Wil & Dale and Yaka's Elite Dancers!

It promises to be a great show which will start at 8:00 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are only $20 and it includes a gift, gourmet dinner, a drink and dessert!

SPTC Mother’s Day Extravaganza entertains island mothers

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) celebrated its annual Mother’s Day Extravaganza at the Honorable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex in San Pedro Town on Saturday, May 12th. For a $20 admission fee, hundreds of island mothers enjoyed a variety of musical and comedic entertainment, gourmet food, drinks, and tons of giveaways.

Gates opened at 6PM, with members of the SPTC, Councilors and Miss San Pedro 2017-2018 Virginia Vasquez welcoming the mothers with a gift and escorting them to their seats. Thereafter, volunteers began to serve the mommies refreshments. At 9PM, Master of Ceremonies Eiden Salazar Jr. welcomed the guests and wished them the best on their special day before inviting Mayor Daniel Guerrero to share a few words. “Mothers are very important in our society. The love of a mother is priceless and you won’t find it anywhere,” said Mayor Guerrero.

MOTHER'S DAY EXTRAVAGANZA 2018

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, The San Pedro Town Council along with Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. hosted its annual Mother's Day Extravaganza at the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex, where the mothers were greeted and presented with a gift as they entered.

The night started with a serenade by San Pedro's very own Wil & Dale featuring Mr. Fernando Trejo. They delighted the crowd with some of their favorite renditions in their Caribbean style.

After Wil & Dale's performance, the official, but short, ceremonies took place, where Ms. Leticia Nuñez offered a prayer asking the Lord to bless all mothers on this very special day.

Following the prayer, Mayor Daniel Guerrero welcomed all the mothers present to the event. He shared memories he cherishes of his mother and him with everyone and thanked all the mothers for all their efforts and sacrifices they have to make for their children.

Hon. Manuel Heredia also shared a few words of gratitude to the mothers, where he expressed that a mother's job is not an easy one and he applauds them for being pillars in the household.

Lastly, Mrs. Flora Ancona offered the closing remarks, where she thanked everyone for attending and those who made the event possible.

After the speeches, the fun began! Emcee Eiden Salazar had the mothers on their toes as he came down from the stage and walked through the aisles to find participants. As he selected a row, he asked who had the most ten cents in their purse or who had most baby pictures of their children and even who had the most jewelry on them. The mother's that qualified won a prize thanks to our generous sponsors.

In between the games, the mothers were entertained by Yaka's Elite Dancers and Ismael Chacon, El Buki, where he sang El Buki's popular hits!

After a few games and entertainment, it was time to announce the Mother of the Year! During the show, members of our staff gathered a few names of mothers that were of 65 years of age and older. These names were placed inside a container, and a name was selected on stage to reveal that this year's Mother of the Year was Mrs. Martha Badillo. Mrs. Martha Badillo of 78 years of age, was born and raised in San Pedro Town and was married to fisherman, Mr. Ramon Badillo. She has always been dedicated to her family and her household, which saw fruition to eleven children, which she is very proud of. After the announcement, Mrs. Badillo was serenaded by Ismael Chacon, El Buki.

And to close the show, the international presentation of Mexican performer Nani Namu and Friends took over the show with her "Show of Stars." Comedian and performer Nani Namu opened her show with a lip sync performance which also featured her back up dancers. After her performance she went down to the front of the stage to present herself and started her comedic performance that had almost all the mothers laughing.

The show consisted of lip sync imitational performances of various Mexican artists, such as: Gloria Trevi, Pimpinela, Alejandra Guzman, Ninel Conde and more. In between the performances, Nani Namu would take a break to share some experiences that occur in a married life, which the mothers can relate to, and had them tearing up of laughter.

One more thing...this year we had a big "MAMÁ" sign as a photo prop for the Moms to take their pictures with - that was pretty cool!

All in all, the show was a success and the San Pedro Town Council and Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. are thankful for everyone's participation and are grateful for all the sponsors and people that made the event a success. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY once again! See you next year!
