Hello all -

I just got the go-ahead from my place of business to work remotely and I was planning on spending the next ~6 months in San Pedro, starting next week. That being said, reliable connectivity is very important to this plan. Any feedback on internet - reliability, pricing, vendors, access, internet capable cafes, etc ... whatever miscellanea is very much appreciated.

I'm also curious to know if there are filtering restrictions going back to the US like when you get that annoying "this media not available from your region" message on YouTube. I believe I have a way to get around that. And if I figure it out for me I can probably provide it out to everyone.

I'm not an expert on this subject by any means but since nobody else has stepped up, I'll send along a few comments.

The location where you live may well determine what service you will have and you may have no real choice in the matter.
There are three providers
BTL
Smart
Coral Cable

People who are completely out of range of these providers use Hughesnet by satellite dish.

I have BTL at my home and at this time it's very reliable. I know people in other locations who have BTL and find it unreliable.
Some folks who have Smart are struggling with breakdowns (seems to be location specific), and other places that find it superior to BTL.
Coral Cable subscribes to BTL and re-sells to subscribers.

Yes, some Youtube videos and news videos won't play here. Also, some online services will only give you access to a Spanish website because it seems they don't know we speak English here.
