The Caye Caulker Village Council in conjunction with BTB anticipates that the new craft market project will start shortly. As such The Caye Caulker Village Council needs to urgently complete the preparation for construction of the intended site of this new craft market.

As part of the preparation process The Caye Caulker Village had secured a court order to (1) remove the structure which Mr. Jacob Cabral had wrongly and illegally erected on the new craft market site and (2) to have Mr. Cabral vacate the property by the 16th July 2018. The eviction order against Mr. Cabral was sought because of his unauthorized use of the rented space, the resulting nuisance causing complaints by community members.

The Caye Caulker Village Council would like to remind the public that the Ministry of Natural Resources has reserved the area known as the Palapa Area for the enjoyment, by Belizeans and visitors, of the beach area; the housing of the new craft market and the location of our annual Lobster Fest.

It is expected that the relocation of the current craft market to the new site will improve beach view and access and beautify our village. All arrangements for such booths and any activity in the said area need to be made with The Caye Caulker Village Council. Applications for booths will be received as soon as the project begins. The existing area with booths will be relocated during construction and each vendor who has been complying with the CCVC will be informed.

The project is scheduled to commence in late August and the hope is that upon completion resident craft persons who secure booths will have an area welcoming to all who travel to our island to seek what Caye Caulker has to offer.
