He took a nice, easy shot and won another five dollars from me. “I’m here on time for a change,” Linsford said, when he walked in. “Where’s Mario and Juan?” Juan finally showed up and Mario came in soon after, which meant that all of the members of the Nosénada Club were ready for our Wednesday Night 8-Ball tournament. The club is made up of Mario, me, Juan, Vernon and Linsford, when his wife lets him out of the house.

Doctor Love: A Miserable Relationship
Dear Doctor Love, I met a girl while on vacation in Belize, and we fell completely in love. We stayed in constant communication when we got back to the States, and after a few months we went back to Belize and realized that we were meant to be together for life. We got married as soon as we got home. That was eighteen months ago. She moved to my place in Texas and she at first loved it. She found a job and seemed to be happy. That only lasted a few short months. Now it seems like nothing pleases her and we argue constantly.

Hip Hip Hooray! It Was the 10th Day of September…
Our first official holiday of September – Belize’s month celebrating Independence – is tomorrow, September 10th, to celebrate the Battle of St George’s Caye. In San Pedro, the town is decked out with red, white and blue. (I’m headed down to decorate the cart in a few minutes – September also comes with HOT WEATHER and MOSQUITOS! No month is perfect) And tomorrow is the crowning of Miss San Pedro and, at 10am, the Uniform Parade. You can see this year’s Independence Slogan. Belize Da Fi Wi, Now and Forever – 8867 I dig it. All 8867 square miles are for us. With the huge issue of Guatemala claiming sovereignty over a huge chunk of Belize, it’s so fitting.

I’ll never forget about Belize
Traveling, living and working with 11 other athletes from Loyola in the beautiful country of Belize was truly one of the best experiences of my life. The living conditions, summer camp and sightseeing are memories that I will never forget. For three weeks, we ran a summer camp in Dangriga, Belize. All 12 of us had our own classroom. I taught the youngest group of kids who were between four and five years old. In the mornings, we taught the kids English, math and arts and crafts. In the afternoons, we taught them sports like soccer, volleyball and basketball. With the younger ones, we played jump rope, Duck, Duck, Goose and they always wanted to race me. Teaching the younger children was a challenge, but an enjoyable one. My favorite activity in the classroom was reading a book to them. With the little ones, I was told it’s very important to be extra enthusiastic and overly exaggerated while reading. The most memorable time was when I read “The Rainbow Fish”.

Lesser Antilles bracing for Hurricane Isaac's impacts late this week
Hurricane Isaac will churn westward and bring strong winds and heavy rain to the Lesser Antilles during the second half of the week. Isaac, the fifth hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season, is located roughly 1,300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles as of early Monday morning. Isaac will continue on a westward path toward the islands into midweek. The hurricane is rather compact in size and this may make it susceptible to fluctuations in strength in the coming days. AccuWeather meteorologists cannot rule out the possibility that it could reach Category 2 strength early this week. However, the storm is expected to encounter increased wind shear later this week.

Where are Helene and Isaac headed in the Atlantic?
Two new tropical storms have emerged in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and one could threaten some of the Caribbean Islands this week. Hurricane Isaac and Hurricane Helene have joined Florence in the Atlantic Basin. Helene, which is located off the west coast of Africa, brought tropical-storm-force conditions to the Cabo Verde Islands over the weekend. Farther west, Isaac will track toward the Lesser Antilles this week. Environmental conditions across the Atlantic will be favorable for Isaac to maintain its hurricane status as it tracks westward. Regardless of strength, seas will become rough and dangerous for bathers and boaters along the east-facing portions of the islands as early as Wednesday. Rain and wind would also increase during the second half of the week on the projected path of Isaac.

You rock up to the check in counter, ready take your first connecting flight, but after a few taps, there’s good news from the agent. The airline has instead offered you a free change to a direct flight, because the connecting flight you’re scheduled on is full, and they need to open up seats. It’s a win, win. After all, if you say no, they’ll likely need to bump someone and compensate them, so it only seems fair. American Airlines has figured out a devilish new way to tempt people into easier flight schedules, when it suits the airline, but rather than being free – it will cost $75.
