On September 10th the uniform parade will be taking place, due to start at 10am from Central park, the parade will cause lots of traffic delays so drivers should avoid the town center as much as possible. Please follow wardens instructions and be patient. There will be a lot of school children in the parade and their safety is top priority.

Hip Hip Hooray! It Was the 10th Day of September

Our first official holiday of September - Belize's month celebrating Independence - is today, September 10th, to celebrate the Battle of St George's Caye.

In San Pedro, the town is decked out with red, white and blue. (I'm headed down to decorate the cart in a few minutes - September also comes with HOT WEATHER and MOSQUITOS! No month is perfect) And tomorrow is the crowning of Miss San Pedro and, at 10am, the Uniform Parade.

You can see this year's Independence Slogan. Belize Da Fi Wi, Now and Forever - 8867

I dig it. All 8867 square miles are for us. With the huge issue of Guatemala claiming sovereignty over a huge chunk of Belize, it's so fitting.

The 2018 Uniform Parade Through the HOT Streets of San Pedro

September 10th. The first national Holiday in a month that feels like one long holiday in Belize. Yesterday celebrates a small crew of Brits and their slaves ousting the pesky Spanish once and for all in 1798 - the Battle of St George's Caye.

Yesterday was the Uniform Parade. My phone told me it was 82 degrees. Add 100% humidity - it did start raining briefly - and about 18 degrees to that temperature. September is RED HOT. Umbrellas (for sun and rain) were handed out to the pageant queens - and the kidsall in their school uniforms roasted in the sun.

It's a September tradition and MAN. Do I love a parade.

San Pedro honors 220th Battle of St. George's Caye with a new beauty ambassador and a patriotic parade

San Pedranos celebrated the 220 th anniversary of the Battle of Saint George's Caye on Monday, September 10 th with the official coronation of the recently elected Miss San Pedro Chelsea Muoz and a uniform parade. Despite inclement weather threatening to dampen the celebration, islanders proceeded with the program of events, starting at 10AM with an official ceremony at the Central Park.

Under a light rain, a multitude of students and citizens witnessed the official coronation of Muoz as the new Miss San Pedro 2018-2019.

Following the coronation, Mayor Daniel Guerrero delivered a few remarks reminding residents of the importance of the holiday. He cited this year's national celebration theme 'Belize Da Fi Wi-Now and Forever, 8867,' and mentioned that thanks to the Battle of St. George's Caye, which took place on the 10 th of September 1798, Belizeans today have a country. Guerrero invited everyone to continue the legacy of our Forefathers, the Baymen, who over 200 years ago fought for the freedom of what is now Belize, from the invaders of the Spanish empire.

Island students celebrate Belize's 37th year of Independence

Various pre-schools in San Pedro Town joined the San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) in a patriotic parade through the main streets of the island on Thursday, September 20th. The fun display was in honor of Belize's 37th anniversary of independence on September 21st.

The parade began around 9AM, heading north on Barrier Reef Drive. Many island parents join their children in the parade, dressed in their most patriotic colors, while others gathered along the street sides of the route to get a good view.

Leading the parade was a marching band complete with dancers, followed by the different pre-schools of the island with the SPRC students ending the parade.
