You may have noticed some new traffic signs on Sea Grape Drive, these signs have a cross on them indicating that they are not yet in use. We will inform drivers when the new traffic flow system will begin. Thank you.

We would like to remind drivers that the new signs on Coconut Drive and Sea Grape drive are not in use, we will inform the public before the new system becomes operational.

To the moron or morons that saw fit to uncover the signs, not only did you endanger the public but you broke the law. It is an offense to alter, damage or remove any traffic sign or barrier, these signs are for the public's safety and only the traffic dept or the police have the authority to deal with traffic signs. We are reviewing CCTV footage to see if we can identify the culprits.

Will Coconut Drive Become A One Way Street?

Exposed sign at the intersection where Island City Supermarket is located, on Coconut Drive, says "Do Not Enter" indicating that Coconut Drive would be made one way with traffic flowing south to north. Remaining covered signs would suggest the this would start at the Caribea Fuels south gas station on Blake Street.

Traffic traveling from town towards the south of the island would make a right turn at Island City and travel along the dirt road section of Seagrape Drive, parallel to Coconut Drive. Ambergris Today contacted the San Pedro Traffic Department and was informed that the covered signs were erected to indicate the new one way traffic flow, but that the decision has been put on hold pending further consultation and other considerations.

We did take a look at the new route.... Seems like a good idea to help relieve traffic in that area.... And headed South you would emerge at the Gas Station where you end up anyway from the dog leg at Perla Escondida. The biggest issue we see is the alternate road is in poor condition; very narrow, rough, undeveloped and floods when it rains. Therefore, the traffic will be slower and more congested. We have been on the island since the days that half the month you would park on one side of the street and half the month on the other side. We are all for progress and have seen some successful changes, hoping this one becomes a good solution.....
