Shooting in DFC San Pedro
Police are processing a crime scene on an unknown street in the DFC Area of San Pedro Town following a shooting tonight. Unofficial reports are that an unknown gunman tried to ambushed a local businessman when he was returning home. Witnesses say that there was an exchange of gunshots, no one was injured, and the assailant fled leaving a bicycle behind. We will have an update as soon as the police provide an official report.

The Nutcracker shines at Island Academy Christmas pageant 2018
The Christmas spirit was present at The Island Academy (TIA) on Wednesday, December 12th for their annual Christmas pageant. This year, the students delighted their audience with a musical performance of the Nutcracker. Parents, teachers, and guests experienced the joy of Christmas with the creative and colorful performances by the students. The show started at 7PM with Founder Lady Dixie Bowen welcoming the families and guests to the 23rd Christmas celebration. She commended the teachers, staff, and students of TIA for organizing another memorable show. She also thanked the parents who were present to watch their children perform.

SICA VIII Ordinary Session of Ministers of Energy held in San Pedro Town
San Pedro hosted the 8th Ordinary Session of Ministers of Energy of Central America including the Dominican Republic from Thursday, December 6th to Friday, December 7th at the Banyan Bay Suites. The event is part of the annual meetings of the Central American Integration System (SICA) for Energy Directors and Ministers. The gathering sought to strengthen the cooperation between member countries to better the region regarding energy usage and accessibility. The event was hosted by Belize's Ministry of Public Service, Energy, and Public Utilities, under the leadership the Minister of State Honourable Frank 'Papa' Mena.

Speaker of the House of Representatives of Belize attends the 36th Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Laura Tucker- Longsworth led Belize's delegation to the 36th Session of the Africa Caribbean Pacific - European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly, following the 52nd Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly. From 28th to 30th November 2018, the Honourable Madam Speaker participated in the 52nd Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly. During the meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs, Madam Speaker relayed an update on the Belize-Guatemala process and the latest developments on Belize's preparations towards its referendum in April 2019.

Storyteller and music writer Stuart Stotts teaches arts integration at ACES
American author, musician and storyteller Stuart Stotts visited the Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) from Monday, December 10th through the 14th, to show teachers how to integrate arts in their teaching methods. Some of the strategies included drama, movement, and music to make lessons more interesting, and interactive, rather than using traditional methods. Stotts, a native from Wisconsin, USA has been holding these educational training in schools around the world for the past 30 years. The opportunity to come to ACES and San Pedro Town stems from an online teaching program from the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh, in which some ACES teachers are currently enrolled. Stott often works with this teaching program that involves arts integration and thus, was asked to visit ACES. "You can only teach so much online. You need some on the ground interaction at some point," said Stotts.

A Christmas tree erected in Ladyville Village was vandalized by person(s). Area Representative and Minister Beverly Williams wrote "It lasted all of one week!!! Sad reality! Third pic shows the broken bulbs and actual removal of the bulbs from their sockets.

Fatal Chopping in Bladen Village
The body of a man was discovered along the Southern Highway. News Five has learned that Marcos Chen was brutally attacked and chopped to death on Friday evening in Bladen Village, Toledo.

FAMILY NEEDS HELP FINDING MISSING FISHERMAN
The family of missing fisherman Greg Dillon is asking the public to be on the lookout for him and call them with any information that could lead to his whereabouts. Dillon left home on Saturday, December 8, preparing to leave for a fishing trip. His wife, Genay Dillon, said that she expected for him to be gone for a few days, but hasn't seen or heard from him since.

THREE PEOPLE INJURED IN SAN IGNACIO SHOOTING
Three people were injured during a late night shooting in front of Tim's Restaurant in San Ignacio last night. Reports are that sometime between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. a gunman walked up to the establishment and opened fire hitting two people and grazing a third then escaped on foot. Notably, the incident happened short distance from a police station.

Prime Minister Departs Country on Personal Leave
The Office of the Prime Minister informs the public that PM Barrow left the country today on personal leave. The Prime Minister will return to Belize on Wednesday, 19th December 2018. In his absence, the Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber will act as Prime Minister.

Minister of Foreign Affairs says Guatemala might invade if Belize votes not to ICJ, PM says stop fear mongering
Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred "Sedi" Elrington,in an interview with the media on Thursday, said if Belize votes 'No' to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in next year's scheduled referendum on the unresolved territorial claim, there is a possibility of a Guatemalan invasion.

Accused child molester gets bail
Although he has been accused of sexual assault against a child, Reginald Coleman, 63, is back at home in Maxboro, Belize. That is because yesterday Magistrate Christina Perrera offered him bail of $5,000 and adjourned the matter until February 12, 2019.

National Assembly pays tribute to Dr. Jane Usher
The National Assembly of Belize announced yesterday that a special tribute to the Late Mrs. Jane Ellen Usher, former parliamentarian, would be given during the Special Sitting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, December 12. After a brief moment of silence, Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow gave a remark about the tremendous contribution that the late Usher gave to the Credit Union League in Belize.

Belize city fisherman reported missing
Police are investigating the disappearance of 32-year-old fisherman Greg Dillon of Belize city. Dillon is 5 feet 9 inches tall. He weighs about 170 lbs.

ACP States reassert commitment to Belize's territorial integrity and sovereignty
The 108th Session of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers concluded yesterday by adopting a Resolution that reasserts the 79 ACP States' unflinching commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Belize in the context of Guatemala's claim.
