Lost Their House on Christmas Day
The holidays were miserable and sad for the Chi family in San Pedro; their home burned down on Christmas morning. Juan Chi and his family were inside their home when the kitchen erupted into flames. They escaped and the fire was contained, but their home was destroyed. Here's more from the police.

"San Pedro police visited the Marina Drive in San Pedro Town, where upon arrival they observed an elevated board house engulfed in flames. The house is owned by one Mr. Juan Chi of that same address. Initial police information is that Mr. Chi was inside of his house along with two minors when he observed the eastern side of the building engulfed in fire; that is where the stove is located. As a result of that, he ran out for assistance and then he came back inside of the house whereby he received minor burns to his body. He was admitted and he was discharged on the same day from the Polyclinic from San Pedro. Up to now there is nothing to indicate that it's an arson. The fire department were there and they were canvassing the remains of the building to see...or if they can establish what is the cause of the fire."

Christmas Day Fire; Family Loses Everything in San Pedro Town
And on Christmas Day a family was left homeless when a fire broke out inside their home around ten in the morning. It happened on Marina Drive in the DFC area in San Pedro Town. The family of six lost everything and one person was injured. The National Fire Service tells us more about the fire that destroyed the wooden home on the island.

“The San Pedro branch of the National Fire Service received and responded to reports from the police of a structural fire on Marina Drive via sea area, San Pedro. On arrival on scene, found was an eighteen by thirty wooden structure, elevated five feet off the ground on fire. The structure was destroyed as a result of the fire. That structure was occupied by a family of six. One individual, male, said to have received burnt injuries to his back as a result of the fire. The fire is said to have originated in the south-east section of the structure. The cause is still under investigation.”
Family spared in Christmas fire; home destroyed and one injured
The San Pedro Fire Department continues to investigate a fire that destroyed a family house on Tuesday, December 25th located near Marina Drive south of San Pedro Town. The fire was reported around mid-day, and even though the island fire department was swift in their response, the wooden structure was completely gutted by the blaze. The homeowner Juan Chi was inside the house along with two minors when the fire began. He received minor injuries when he tried to salvage some of his belongings and was then rushed to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, where he was treated and released the same day.
According to the official report from authorities, San Pedro Police visited the Marina Drive area where they observed an elevated board house engulfed in flames. The report indicates that the fire started on the eastern side of the building where the stove was located. Chi reportedly ran out of the house seeking assistance and then went back inside the house. As a result, he received minor injuries to his body and was treated at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II later that day. The minors that were with him inside the house did not experience any injuries.
