Addressing the re-colonization of Belize
By: Abdulmajeed K Nunez. In 2019 contemplating the future of African Descendants born in Belize should no longer be conversation, as it still is in Belize during this decade of African Descendants . Come join us at the Belize Liberty Hall as we address this issue among others stating at the gathering January 27th 2019. How do we develop and strengthen Individual, National, and International Identity? How do we connect an Individual, National and Regional agenda to the diaspora Race first agenda? At the same time, the question must be asked as to why the Black population of 90% 100 years ago is/has steadily reduced, now being 41.6 percent in 2018? Let’s try to answer these and other questions important to preserving the Belize Patrimony; While some of us are a sleep some of us are working each day to connect African Descendants born in Belize to the world-wide African Diaspora Families’ social, cultural, economic and environmental infrastructure to improve the condition in the lives of the Belizean black man and woman.

Pok A Tok Words
by Yasser Musa. Thirteen days ago I journeyed with the SJC History Club to San Lazaro for their village Festival. We had a special encounter organized by Hugo Carillo, the community museum-ologist and Maya activist. Our first stop was Orange Walk Town near the Marcus Canul Monument. I could not avoid the small white statue of Queen Victoria, her empire still in our minds, the capital project in full bloom in December 2018, the American Sugar Refiners smiling, Christmas lights blinking, crowded tacos stands. Just up the road, heading west, our bus makes the difficult climb to the top of the hill in Blue Creek. Its Sunday and everything is closed. On this morning most cows were seated, watching this army of cameras and orange t-shirts. From up there we could see wide rice fields, and the winding Hondo.

One-Of-A-Kind Beach Bar
Just past the turn off to Secret Beach, on the reef side, is the Rojo Beach Bar & Lounge. I recently took a young friend, Matt, for an afternoon visit. This spot might be the sexiest beach bar on the Caye. The drinks are extra large, ice cold, and creative. The food is very good. Our favorite snack is the Conch Fritters. These fritters may be the best you’ll find in the Caribbean. In addition to the food and drink you’ll find a small infinity pool with lounges built in and games to keep you entertained. A very cool spot to visit with a view to match.

Blue Water Grill-Sushi Anyone???
Every Tuesday and Thursday one of our favorite spots for sushi is Blue Water Grill. They are located on the beach right next to the Sunbreeze Hotel. Not only do they have nummy sushi every Tuesday and Thursday, their salads are some of the best on the island. If you want a great way to spend an evening out head over to the Blue Water Grill, you will also want to get your picture taken at their famous lighted BELIZE sign, a frequent picture taking spot on the Caye.
