The Caribbean Sea

A cold front extends from east Cuba near 20N75W to 16N88W. An upper-level trough extends across the central Caribbean. Diffluent flow aloft is enhancing convection across Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, as well as their adjacent waters. GOES-16 water vapor imagery continues to show a dry air mass over the western Caribbean behind the front. The scatterometer data indicates light to gentle winds over central and eastern portion of the basin.

The cold front will weaken as it continues to push east over the west Caribbean today. Fresh winds over the far south central Caribbean will begin to strengthen Saturday. Long period north swell, with seas peaking to around 7 ft, will propagate through the Atlantic waters through Saturday night, then subside through Monday night.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the Northerner is still with us but our barrier reef is in the islands lee and the sea around it is calm, despite the strong Northwest wind in the Caribbean. It's a beautiful sunny morning with an expected high temperature for the day in the low 80's.

From Belmopan...

The cool air continues down from the north, with clear skies over the Yucatan and north Belize. There is still the remains of of fog in some parts of central Belize. most of south Belize has sunshine, but there is cloud activity still off the coast with clashing air masses causing off shore rain.

Looks as if today will be mainly sunshine, but with clouds developing from the north later this morning, probably no rain on land.

Temperatures in Belmopan :
( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last night min. 20°C 69°F Yesterday max. 27°C 81°F Yesterday Rain 0.9 mm ( 0.04" )

The Cloud picture. Largely clear skies now, some clouds will form later, rain only out at sea.

Tomorrows WEATHER for - Sat 12 Jan 2019

The Caribbean winds with patches of cloud are still coming down from the NNE, but appear to be meeting resistance from some warmer air from the south, causing a lot of cloud over southern Belize, but there is no longer clashing at sea causing rain. The cool air is now being diverted towards the west.

It is not clear how this will pan out over night, but it does look as if south air is pushing the cool air away, so it looks as if tomorrow morning is likely to be very cloudy, probably little or no rain, but I expect things will change during the day. I see the met office suggest much less cloud tomorrow, than recently, I am not seeing that.
