Gonzo Gove 1/1/2019

7/15/1946 to 01/01/2019 It is difficult to sum up a man's life in several words. All that Gonzo would want me to say about him is that "all he ever wanted to do was play guitar and go fishing". There is always more to a man than they want you to know...
What I want to say is that he had an ability with the guitar, a voice and an ear like very few others. Gonzo called it filling in the holes. He also served his country proudly during the Vietnam conflict, flying Huey's in SE Asia and also in Panama and South America. 67 air medals, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. A complex man with the inability to let the perils of war fade from memory, he fought with his thoughts until the day he passed.
San Pedro was a comfort zone where he did not have to think as much about his past. Ambergris Caye provided the opportunity to concentrate on both of his life's desires, guitar playing and fishing.....picking that guitar on the Gonzebo....

"Sam Stone" by John Prine
Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.
