Hello kind people. I am looking at booking a trip for family to Ambergis Caye in June. I love the idea of lobster fest and the pictures and stories of the area. I have a couple questions. I know how important the sea grass is and why it is such a presence in the area, but are there particular beaches or resorts that have less seagrass and more swimmable beaches from the shore? I ask because I am bringing my 7 year old and 5 year old that are very used to beaches in Costa Rica and Florida. The kiddos love the water and love being in the ocean. Also, are there lots of activities for a 7 and 5 year old? Thank you so much for any help.

There is no sea grass on the west side. The area is known as Secret beach and there you can walk out in the water in beautiful water about a quarter mile. We have the only rentals out there. If you want to look us up we are paradise on the Caye. If you’d like you can email me at [email protected] and we can get you set up. We have a room off our deck that has a queen bed and 2 bunk beds!!

Some resorts and properties do have better beaches than others, but sea grass is necessary. Ramon's Village may have the kind of beach you are after. The bigger problem right now is the sargasso. We've been coming down staying in a condo south of town for 10 years now. I usually go swimming off the dock since the property has a seawall, however this year was the first year even at the end of the dock there was a lot of the seaweed. We went snorkeling outside the reef and were even running into sargasso out there.

I would not recommend taking 5 and 7 years old out to Secret Beach. It's kinda become a party atmosphere out there, not really geared for kids in my opinion. Find a nice quiet place either north or south of town.

I think Secret Beach is a wonderful place for kids! Maybe not late in the day when the adult partygoers are a bit loud, but from mid-morning to mid-afternoon it's not particularly crowded (especially on week-days) and it's so pretty. the water is shallow and clear and kids love it. My favorite place is the Secret Paradise which is the place farthest north along the stretch of bars and restaurants. Give it a try.
As for resorts with beaches, X-Tan Ha also has a good swimming beach area and it is a very nice place.
For a day-trip, maybe take the water taxi to Caye Caulker and visit KokoKing or the Split. Both nice places to get in the water and enjoy.
