BELIZE FISHING REPORT

JANUARY 6, 2019 THROUGH JANUARY 13, 2019

Weather Conditions: Light winds and a few scattered showers.

Winds: From the East - 5-10 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 70’s, lows around 70.

Water Temperature: 81º F.

Sunrise: 6:26 am Sunset: 5:36 pm

Moonphase: Waxing Gibbous

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish action was good both from the boats and while wading.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several nice permit were landed on the fly.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon were caught on the larger flats and around Mangroves.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

This Week’s Summary:

A week of pretty nice weather with light winds and a few showers of short duration gave anglers and guides lots of options on where to fish.

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

JANUARY 27, 2019 THROUGH FEBRUARY 3, 2019

Weather Conditions: Calm winds and sunny most of the week.

Winds: E, NE 5-10.

Air Temperature: Highs in the mid-'70s, Lows around 70.

Water Temperature: 81º F.

Sunrise: 6:28 am Sunset: 5:48 pm

Moonphase: Waning Crescent

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Fishing for bonefish was good from the boats and while wading. Several large bonefish were landed.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit were landed on the fly and with spinning gear.

TARPON (Sabalo): Calm days helped with locating tarpon on the flats.

OTHER SPECIES: Cobia, snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, pink sizes 6 & 8

FOR PERMIT - Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8, Mantis Shrimp.

FOR TARPON - All black and black and purple toads and bunnies 2/0 or 3/0

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

Several beautiful days with calm winds and cooler weather made for a lot of memories for our guests.

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

February 3, 2019 THROUGH February 10, 2019

Weather Conditions: Windy. Partly cloudy to cloudy with periods of sunshine.

Winds: E, ENE 10-22 mph

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 70's's, Lows around 70.

Water Temperature: 81º F.

Sunrise: 6:21 am Sunset: 5:51 pm

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were caught in shallow water when conditions were good for sight casting, and the deeper bite in 2-4 feet of water kept the action going when it was cloudy or windy.

PERMIT (Palometta): Mark, Doug, and Nick all took home angler award pins for landing the always tricky to catch permit on a fly rod.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon were tougher to catch this week due to wind and clouds, but several anglers got the opportunity to hook and jump the Silver King.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, jacks, barracuda, Spanish mackerel.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8, Mantis Shrimp.

FOR TARPON - Chartreuse, white, red and black, all black and black and purple toads and bunnies continue to work well. 0

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

A cold front bringing clouds and winds early in the week made sight casting more difficult than the previous weeks. It was our pleasure to host the first Orvis Bonefish Bonanza of the year.

FEBRUARY 17, 2019 THROUGH FEBRUARY 24, 2019

Weather Conditions: Very windy and sunny to partly sunny

Winds: E, SE 15-25 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the mid-'70s with lows around 70.

Water Temperature: 81º F.

Sunrise: 6:13 am Sunset: 5:56 pm

Moonphase: Waning Gibbous

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish bite was good even on the windiest days.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit were landed by both fly and spin anglers including a nice double by Erika & Nik.

TARPON (Sabalo): The wind and waves greatly reduced the amount of viable tarpon water for the week.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snook, snapper, and jacks.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Orange sizes 6 & 4.

FOR PERMIT - Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - White and black and purple toads and bunnies 2/0 or 3/0

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

An unusually long string of windy days kept the fishing close to the cayes and islands. Bonefish, barracuda ,and jacks provided plenty of action. Permit fishing was good despite the challenging conditions.

Winds: E 15-20.

Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80s's, Lows around 80.

Water Temperature: 81º F.

Sunrise: 6:05 am Sunset: 6:00 pm

Moonphase: New moon

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were good for both large schools in 2 feet of water and larger individuals in shallow waters.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several permit were landed by both fly and spin anglers.

TARPON (Sabalo): Windy days kept the tarpon fishing around the Mangroves for juvenile fish.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snook, snapper, and jacks.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Orange size 6.

FOR PERMIT - Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8, Mantis Shrimp.

FOR TARPON - White and black and purple toads and bunnies 2/0 or 3/0

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

Warm and windy days with some cloud cover presented more challenging conditions this week.

MARCH 3, 2019 THROUGH MARCH 10, 2019

Weather Conditions: Windy, sunny and warm.

Winds: E,ESE 15-20.

Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80s's, Lows around 80.

Sunrise: 6:03 am Sunset: 6:00 pm

Moonphase: Waxing crescent.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were found in both large schools in 2 feet of water and larger individuals in shallower waters.

PERMIT (Palometta): A good week for permit. Lots of opportunities to cast to some large schools.

TARPON (Sabalo): Guests had shots at tarpon both around the Mangroves and in shallow water near small islands.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snook, snapper, and jacks.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Orange size 6.

FOR PERMIT - Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8, Mantis Shrimp.

FOR TARPON - White and black and purple toads and bunnies 2/0 or 3/0

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

El Pescador had the opportunity to host our second Orvis Bonefish Bonanza of 2019. A lot of bonefish were landed and the highlight of the week was a double on big permit by Logan and Bryan.

Weather Conditions: Windy to calm, sunny and warm.

Winds: E, ESE 5-20 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80s's, Lows around 80.

Sunrise: 5:57 am Sunset: 6:02 pm

Moonphase: Waxing Gibbous.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefishing was good both from the boat and wading, with some really large ones landed.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several large permit were landed both on fly and spin.

TARPON (Sabalo): Light winds and sunshine improved the tarpon opportunities.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Orange size 6.

FOR PERMIT - Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8, Mantis Shrimp.

FOR TARPON - White and black and purple toads and bunnies 2/0 or 3/0

This Week’s Summary:

MARCH 24, 2019 THROUGH MARCH 31, 2019

Weather Conditions: Windy to calm, sunny and warm.

Winds: East, North, 5-15mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80s's, Lows in the high 70's.

Sunrise: 5:56 am Sunset: 6:05 pm

Moonphase: Waning Crescent.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Conditions were excellent for sight casting both from the boat and wading.

PERMIT (Palometta): Good weather helped produce some nice permit on the fly.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon up to 50 pounds were landed.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

GRAND SLAM: Steve closed out March with a Grand Slam on the fly.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Chartreuse or white Tarpon Toads.

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

Nice weather all week provided plenty of opportunities and produced several "firsts" on a fly.

APRIL 7, 2019 THROUGH APRIL 14, 2019

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny, Wind ranging from strong to calm.

Winds: East, 5-30 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:35 am Sunset: 6:08 pm

Moonphase: Waxing Gibbous.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were biting well in all weather conditions.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit were caught shallow on the leeward side of the cayes and in deeper channels on.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon around the Mangroves were a good option on the windy days and on the flats on calmer days.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Black/red or white Tarpon Toads.

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week’s Summary:

A week of widely varying wind conditions still produced some nice fish. The highlight of the week was a 6 Permit day for Rob and Debbie fishing with Capt. Gordy.
