Vague warnings lacking scientific data backing it up = "junk science" (aka "crap"). I will still use sunscreen (and the pica pica stuff), minus angst and guilt. ByWarren is right.

Haha!
It's all REBEL's fault, he/she started it.
I just commented accordingly.
Bywarren is right. There are a lot of things that contribute to water pollution here.
I guess there is no perfect world.

Funny how contagious nit-picking is huh?

Yadda Yadda Pica Pica go ahead and bite me. I am going to be to buzzed to feel any pain and doubt I will see any rash through my beer goggles.

I still want to know what is the life cycle and how long these little buggers are dangerous. I did a search on yahoo and only got info about bacterial growth and the relationship to the little buggers. I still want to know how long before they are buggers versus not so stingy things. Thank GOD I am staying somewhere with a pool. --And should I forget the snorkeling?

I still want to know how long the buggers are going to be around? Anyone read Veng? I tried a search on the internet and mostly came up with -- they are etc. etc. ---- but nothing about how long they stayed in the larvae stage and how long we would have to worry about it. There is some concern about the reef. I understand there is a "non" petroleum" jelly. If anyone has any info, please advise. I am in the POOL with my 30 proof. Forget the ocean, especially if I end up with hives -- I only want a TAN -- not bumps.

LOL

Restraint of pen and tongue seems to be unattainable by some. Trash talkers seem to show up everywhere.

For those of you who actually care.
The weather conditions here are extremely unusual. Pica-Pica are supposedly gone by the end of April. The seas are overly warm - steady 85 degrees. Two days ago, when we went in the water at 4:30 the surface was 90 and lasted down to 19' where it "cooled off" to 85! We have had days of total calm - no wind at all. This makes for an amazingly flat surface and the vis has been over 100'. Believe it or not this is not good. Locals are concerned about El Nino effects.

The treatment I received from the free clinic was wonderful and within 24 hours I had relief. However, I had suffered for 48 hours before getting treatment, so that was a total of 3 days.
I felt better and went back in for two dives, thought I had learned what to do and what not to do, but NO! I was hit even harder this time. Next day went back to the clinic where they gave me another, stronger and longer lasting injection, more hydro-cortisone cream and I continued taking the internal medicine. This is taking much longer to heal. I can't help but scratch and some of it is almost obscene.
I simply must not take another chance on another dive.
Thanks God I plan to move here so will be able to pick and choose when to dive.
BTW - everyone here is getting hit to one degree or an other. Some of us just seem to be more susceptible than others.

So how about taking your trash talk to another part of the board?

we best just pray. if frank gets hit with this (after being chowed by skeeters in '00) this will FOR SURE be our last trip to AC! (NOOO!!)

oh. and toad. you could have taken those words about loving the earth right out of my mouth. (maybe we were twins seperated at birth?) that is why we came to belize to begin with.

and, if 1000 peolpe read this thread & use petrolium jelly, it would be a bigger problem than if 0 did. the point that our visit alone is causing pollution is beside the point, and maybe a little exaggerated?

as always, JMHO.
