Yesterday was a wake-up call.....
There is nothing quite like a protracted power outage to remind you that flashlights need fresh batteries, 5 candles is not enough, just how good canned food can taste when cooking is not so easy, and that it's pretty important to keep your cel-phone charged - - -
Nothing quite like a late night cry for "HELP" to remind you that 911 can work, that flashlights need fresh new batteries, that it's pretty important to keep your cel-phone charged ---
Even when it's not hurricane season, staying prepared keeps us safer and more comfortable. Sometimes we forget - and it's good to have a reminder.
And a post-script to the events referenced here:
The power came back on before dark, the spaghetti was ok, the cry for help was a (very) drunk, muddy, one-shoed golf-cart-driving tourist who had lost his way back to his hotel, who thought maybe he'd also lost his wife (later discovered that she was fine back at the hotel). Police response was prompt, professional and patient. BTW - said muddy-man said he was on his honey-moon. Any bets on how the love-birds are doing this morning?
And as for myself - today I'll be taking inventory of flashlights, batteries and candles .....
