Last night, most of Belize City - the country's largest population center - was with low or no water pressure after the main pipe coming into the city from the Double Run water treatment plant in Sandhill was ruptured.

As we understand it the pipe got punctured at four and a half miles on the Phillip Goldson highway by another utility: BEL which was putting in lampposts.

It happened early Wednesday afternoon, and BWS announced that the low or no water pressure situation would continue until 11:00 Wednesday evening. Motorists were asked to drive with extreme caution on the Phillip Goldson Highway at mile 4.5.
