The Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic is shaping up to be yet another nail-biter.

Approximately 100 riders, including 20 foreigners, will take on that 144 mile ride to compete for the garland. Race promoter Kwame Scott told us about some of the big named athletes who will be participating in the 91st running of the Cross Country Classic, the biggest event on Belize's Cycling calendar:

Of course, we'll have the full recap of the race on Tuesday. And if you want to see it live, it will be available on the Cycling Federation's Facebook page.

Former Cross Country Champ Justin Williams, upset with Cycling Federation

Former (two-time) Cross Country Champ Justin Williams speaks on this yearís race. He also sounds off on what he perceives as unfair treatment from the Cycling Federation of Belize. Williams says he may not return to ride next year if certain things donít change.

See full statement below.

Hard day on the bike at this yearís Cross Country Classic. My form wasnít where it was last year but I gave my all. Iím happy with Coryís 6th place finish; he made a beautiful bridge to the winning break in the final 20 miles. Unfortunately he was in the hardest position a rider can be in, facing all three of the Guatemalan riders alone.

We come to Belize every year to represent our family and friends. This event has been in our hearts since we were kids and we try to make everyone proud every year. We understand you canít win them all but canít help but feel slighted by the Cycling Federation of Belize. So, we will not be returning to the Cross Country Classic in 2020 if the Cycling Federation of Belize doesnít allow us to bring a team to help us fight for the Garland. We will no longer take on the burden of trying to win with unfair odds.

Every year itís something else. Now Cory & I donít qualify for Belizean prizes because our license doesnít say BIZ, but we are still held by the standard that Belizean teams are. (Cory and I) can not have foreign riders on their team. I still havenít seen some of my prizes from my first (2015) and second (2018) Cross Country Championships including the land I was promised. So enough is enough.

Shout out to all the Belizean riders that left it all out there. We tried. I was really proud to be the guy you all came to in our fight to keep the Garland home. To the public, thank you for all the support over the years. I truly love being your champ and felt pain riding to the finish knowing I let you down.
