The Caribbean Sea

Westerly flow aloft is transporting mid to upper level moisture from Central America through Cuba, Windward Passage and Hispaniola. Scattered showers are noted over the northwest Caribbean waters mainly north of 15N and west of 75W. Moisture is forecast to persist across Cuba, Hispaniola, and adjacent waters this weekend enhancing the likelihood of some convective activity, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours. Subsidence and relatively dry weather cover the remainder of the basin. The Saharan Air Layer product from CIMSS shows that this is partially due to some African dust that has reached this area.

Fresh winds will prevail over the south-central Caribbean, while moderate winds will continue over the eastern Caribbean and gentle winds over the northwest Caribbean. Fresh to strong winds will continue over the Gulf of Honduras Sat through Wed night.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the wind is from the East at 16 mph making the sea around our barrier reef choppy. We have a cloudy sky with an expected high temperature in the upper 80's.

There is a change in the weather, there is some mid-level cloud coming down from the NW. The easterly Caribbean winds and clod are the same as the last few days. There is a lot of high level cloud, the end result of quite a few ITCZ swellups in the Pacific, south Mexico and Guatamala, although these are not causing any rain on Belize as such, but due to the high cloud cover, the Caribbean winds are producing a little rain in the Stann Creek district.

Looks as if today will be similar to the last few days, a lot of cloud, a little hazy sun an increased chance of some rain.

The high level cloud from the west is reducing to show a hazy sunshine.

As you can see in the lower picture, there is a band of ITCZ cloud across the tropics from Africa into the Pacific.
This line moves up northwards as the year changes from early spring towards summer time. Bringing with it ITCZ swellups and rain, some very heavy rains. You can see how there is a bulge at present over Guatamala, that is causing the high level clouds over Belize these last few days. This ITCZ line, sometimes referred to as the Monsoon band, is moving up nearer to us, and will be over Belize towards the end of May and early June.

Tomorrows WEATHER for - SUN 19 May 2019

There are swellups in Guatamala and south Mexico, but a little less unstable than yesterday.
The swellups have been too far away to bring rain out way, just a bit of high level cloud,

So it looks as if tomorrow, Sunday will again be similar to today, but a slightly lower chance of rain.
