Tropical threat may brew in Gulf of Mexico as Atlantic hurricane season officially begins

A broad area of unsettled weather located near the west coast of the Yucatan Peninsula will move west-northwestward over the Bay of Campeche this weekend.

"Given sufficiently warm water, this low pressure area could evolve into an organized tropical system" Kottlowski said.

There is also relatively low wind shear, or changing of wind speed and/or direction with altitude, over the Bay of Campeche, which provides a conducive environment for tropical features to organize.

However, Kottlowski pointed out that the potential for strengthening may be limited since the feature will remain close to land and over the water for a short amount of time.

Still, strengthening to a tropical depression or even a tropical storm is possible before the low pressure area reaches the east coast of Mexico Monday into Tuesday.

Some of the tropical moisture may be pulled northward into the United States next week.

"This feature could potentially bring rainfall to southern and eastern Texas later next week," he added.

There are many swellups all over the place. We are definitely in the Rainy season even if you have not had rain from this lot. The main swellups are over the sea just north of San Pedro, where there is a lot of rain, which moved up from the south. The rain in Stann Creek and near Belize City are reducing.

Looks as if today is going to be very varied, could be more swellups anywhere this afternoon, in the mean time cloudy and sunny conditions can be around anywhere.

The swellup still causing a lot of rain, but not in Belize. The surface wind is from the SW shown in light blue.

The whole region has had lots of swellups, some just caused by the changing weather, but there has been a general drift of warm air coming up from the SSW which have aggravated these swellups, particularly the one now just off our north coast, you can see the line of rain. Those areas in the Gulf of Mexico are under warning of possible storm INVEST 91L. But is is looking as if the western Gulf is getting clearer of clouds.

Tomorrows WEATHER for - SUN 02 Jun 2019

We are right having some strange weather. The swellups can be expected, but there was an SSW surface wind playing with that, causing most of the rain to be north of Belize. But right now there is a small swellup on our Border near Spanish lookout. But there is a massive blanket of cloud coming down over most of Belize and the Caribbean sea just off shore from the North. This is not the remains of the swellups, well sort of, but not bringing rain down, just cloud cover and it is not the normal high level cloud either.

Looks like tomorrow will be largely cloudy with a strong chance for scattered rain.
