Police may have reasons to believe that two men of Ambergris Caye were killed. Correspondent Jorge Aldana has the story to two men, Melvin Montecino and Silverio Cal, who were reported missing and yet to be located.

George Aldana - Reporter: "Authorities in San Pedro Caye are investigating a possible double murder after they found the properties of two missing individuals with blood stains and what appears to be a gunshot on one of the items. Police on the island say that on Thursday, June 13th they received a missing person report for 26-year-old Melvin Alexander Montecino, a Belizean tour guide. According to the report Montecino left on a motorcycle with another individual known only as Ketchi around 9 on Thursday morning. Since then family members have not seen or heard of neither Montecino or Ketchi. Searches have since been conducted on Northern Ambergris Caye and on Saturday, June 15th a search team found black slippers and part of the motorcycle mirror with blood. Some twenty feet off the road eleven miles north of San Pedro Town in the Habanero area of the island; further into the bushes about one hundred feet from the road police came across a black motorcycle helmet with blood stains and what appears to be a single gunshot to the back of the helmet. The helmet has since been identified as the one Ketchi was wearing on the day he went for Montecino. Police have collected blood swabs from the items as a part of the investigation. While police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of both men they believe that they may be looking at a double murder, however, they are yet to find the two men. This is not the first time people have gone missing on the northern portion of Ambergris Caye. In the previous incidence, the dead remains have been found days after in shallow graves. Northern Ambergris Caye is also known as a hotspot for criminal and illicit activities. Reporting for Love News from San Pedro Town I am George Aldana."

Police are also looking for 15-year-old, Shaniece Ramirez. Not much details have been shared but we are following the story.

Silverio Cal and Melvin Montesino reported missing in San Pedro

The San Pedro Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating two island residents, 27-year-old Silverio Cal and 26-year-old Melvin Montesino, who have been missing since Thursday, June 13th.

According to the official police report, Cal and Montesino both departed from their homes in town en-route to the northern coast of Ambergris Caye on Thursday, June 13th and have not been heard from or seen since. Two days of searches have been conducted by family members and police officers in the area where they were last seen. On Friday, June 14th, during a frantic search, Police officers reported that they found a motorcycle helmet and a mirror, suspected to be from Montesino's motorcycle, on the northern beach.

The San Pedro Police Department is working arduously in locating Cal and Montesino. Any person that may have information that could lead to the location of Cal and Montesino can visit the station on Pescador Drive or call 206-2022. Tips will remain anonymous.

San Pedro Men Still Missing: 1 Vehicle Impounded, 1 Man Detained

It's been five days since two men disappeared on Ambergris Caye. Silverio Cal and Melvin Montesino were last seen alive on Thursday night heading to the north side of the island. They have not reported to work, nor have they been in contact with relatives. Several searches conducted between miles eleven and fourteen, north of San Pedro Town, have proven fruitless and the families of the men fear that the worst has happened. Investigators have been working around the clock to find out how the men disappeared without a trace. News Five's Duane Moody headed to the island today and found that a vehicle had been impounded and one person detained.

A van has been impounded and one person detained pending further investigation into the disappearance of two men on Ambergris Caye. News Five has been reliably informed that this white van with taxi license plates has been searched and remains in police custody on the island. So, too, is its owner whom it is believed can assist investigators with the case. Twenty-seven-year-old Silverio Cal and twenty-six-year-old Melvin Montesino have not been seen or heard from since last Thursday. Five days and several searches later, the friends, who were en route to the northern part of the island on a motorcycle, have not been located. A missing persons report by Montesino's mother was made on Saturday.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

"Just after seven in the morning, Aida Montesino of a San Pedro address visited the San Pedro Police Station and she reported that she had not seen her son since Wednesday the thirteenth of June. His name is Melvin Alexander Montesino, twenty-six years of a Sea Star Street address in San Pedro. He is of Hispanic descent, medium built and about five feet eight inches in height. What we understand is that on Thursday at about nine p.m. he was at his address along with some friends when he received a call and thereafter departed that location along with another friend on board a motorcycle. That was the last time that he was seen in the area of San Pedro."

There is speculation as to what may have befallen Cal and Montesino. In San Pedro today, residents theorize that the men may have been killed as a result of their alleged involvement in underworld activity. While police have not confirmed this, several attempts have been made to locate the missing men.

"The family members and the police have organized several searches. Information they received was that he went to the north side of San Pedro so the family members and police conducted a search between eleven and fourteen miles north of San Pedro where up to now it has proved fruitless."

"Sir, is it known if the missing person is known to have been involved in illicit activities on the island? And is it from the way how you're presenting it, the family thinks he is already dead?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo

"Well the mother mentioned that the last time she saw him was on Wednesday. The other friends that were along with him in the apartment as he is the manager of an apartment building and he left from there on Thursday night along with another male person, Silverio Cal."

Cal is originally from Punta Gorda and did masonry on the island; meanwhile, Montesino is a mechanic. So why did they head to the north side of the island?

ASP Alejandro Cowo

"There is no indication that they went there for any function or any business. All we understand is that he had received a call and he told them that he was going on that location."

Search Intensifies for Missing Men

The disappearance of two men from San Pedro Town since last week Thursday has created quite a stir among family members, friends and members of the Belize Police Department who have teamed up and launched multiple search parties with the hope of finding them.

Melvin Montesino, 26 and his friend Silvero Cal, 27 were last seen alive on Wednesday, June 12th when they departed from Montesino's apartment on Water Lane in San Pedro Town. It is being reported that around 9:00 p.m. on that day friends witnessed as Montesino received a phone call from someone and had a short conversation. Witnesses say that when the phone call ended, Montesino informed his friends that he was heading to north Ambergris Caye and would be back. Montesino and Cal left from the apartment on board a motorcycle and since then they have not returned or had any contact with family members.

Police were only informed of the disappearance on Saturday when Montesino's mother went to the Police Station and reported her son missing.

On Monday, ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, Crimes Investigation Branch explained that "Up to now, family members and Police have organized several searches. The information they received is that he went to the north side of San Pedro, so the family members and Police conducted searches between eleven and fourteen miles north of San Pedro where up to now it has proven fruitless."

Since Northern Ambergris Caye is commonly known for wet drops and drug transactions, the men's late night visit in that area has been questioned. ASP Cowo stated that "There is no indication that they went there for any function or any business. All we understand is that he had received a call and he told them that he was going to that location."

It is also being theorized that some ill fate might have befallen the men, and on Wednesday Police sources confirmed that a motorcycle mirror and a helmet believed to be the property of Montesino were found in the search area. The Reporter was also informed that several persons have been detained for questioning, among them the driver of a white taxi-van who Police believe can shed some light on the ongoing investigation. The van, which is impounded at the San Pedro Police Station, was processed by Scenes of Crime technicians but nothing incriminating was found.

Authorities could not comment on whether they suspect that the men left the island by boat. The Reporter reached out to the Belize Coast Guard to inquire whether they are part of the ongoing search for the men but they commented that they are not involved since the men were not on any water vessel when they disappeared.
