Joe, The snorkel and diving trips at the reef are not affected.
The problems with the sargasso start when it collects on the shoreline and begins to rot.
Normally Sargasso is an important and valued addition to marine life and habitat for baby turtles but in recent years fertilizer runoff from the West coast of Africa has caused the sargasso to increase into a problem for the world. To much of a good thing starts to build up at the shorelines of the Atlantic and Caribbean, not circulating and staganant the rot begins and produces a smelly harmful mess.
Thankfully the Barrier Reefs are not affected and it's still a positive influence there.
