The eighteenth Pan American Games takes place in Lima, Peru from July twenty-sixth to August eleventh. A select few have been chosen by the Belize Olympic Committee to represent the Jewel in the upcoming games. Today, at its headquarters in Belize City, the delegation was revealed to the media. There will be three athletes, two males and one female, in canoeing and athletics: a female in the one hundred-metre dash, an athlete for triathlon and one for male bodybuilding.
Giovanni Alamilla, Asst. Sec. Gen., Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association
“For the entire delegation, the only ones that qualified is canoeing so they have outright qualified. The practice has always been that no matter what athletics will be represented. That’s just a way to ensure that every country is represented. So usually it is two males and two females, but for these games it is only one female, which will be Hilary. The entire Pan America: from Canada down, all the Caribbean, Central America and South America will be competing.”
“So what are the expectations for our athletes who will be going out?”
“Well like I said, canoeing qualified so we expect them to be at least in the top five, maybe medal. So they have been doing really well regionally. I believe it was in Canada that they qualified for these games. So the other sports: Hilary has been doing very good. She is competing right now in Costa Rica and from there, she’ll go to Lima.”
