Not enough markets for Belize’s record-breaking sugar crop season
The 2018-2019 sugar crop season came to a close on Monday, July 15th with yet another record-breaking sugar cane milling season. Sugar industry stakeholders in the northern part of the country claim that the results were beyond expectations, producing over 140 thousand tons of sugar. However, despite successful in production, the industry continues to struggle in securing markets, following the European Union (EU) reforms which no longer give Belize preferential rates on sugar.

The factory produced over 155,000 metric tons of sugar in an extended 214 day season, exceeding the previous record set in 2016 by more than 12 thousand metric tons. Despite this success, however, some farmers say they are still struggling to break even due to the price of cane on the market.

CCJ, best court for all
The new head of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will be working doubly hard to convince TT nationals and other citizens in the countries that have not yet signed on completely to the CCJ as their final court of appeal, that it is truly the best court for the region. “Judging is not a mathematical science but the appreciation of culture and values and societal goals whose national disputes you are judging,” Justice Adrian Saunders told Sunday Newsday last week. “I think a Caribbean court will always be better placed to do that than a court based in Timbuktu or wherever.”

A hidden United benefit will extend your trip for next to nothing
If you have the United Explorer Card like I do, the Excursionist Perk is a great way to get more from your miles. The Excursionist Perk adds an extra flight to a multi-city itinerary for no extra miles. For me, this helped to extend a recent trip to Greece to see Italy as well for just 60,000 miles and under $150 in taxes. The best part is that it's so simple to use. There's no need to enter any promotional codes — all it requires is booking with miles through United's site in order for the Excursionist Perk fare to take effect automatically.

American Airlines to offer free Wi-Fi? Here's what it'll cost you
As the big airlines begin to promise that Wi-Fi on flights will be free, they're gambling on flyers tolerating more big discomfort. Flying has become a little less glamorous. Delays are commonplace. Cancellations are regular, too. And even the latest planes, like the Boeing 737 MAX, seem to have been created with commercial exigencies more prominent than those of, say, safety. Still, there's one thing flyers crave on a flight. No, not food or friendly smiles. Those departed a while ago and are only slowly making a comeback. Instead, everyone wants Wi-Fi. Good Wi-Fi. Great Wi-Fi. Free Wi-Fi. Airlines have recently shown a tendency to give with one hand and and slip three more into every available passenger pocket. Sneaky nickel-and-diming charges have become one of those norms you're supposed to put up with and hate airlines for.
