What's with the Town Board removing the speed bumps? Have they finally come to their senses realizing they only slow down golf carts, that mostly don't speed, and do nothing to slow down motorcycle, taxis and larger vehicles? Or is this just temporary until they install new ones to further damage my golf cart and my back?

So, the question you have to ask is, since the equipment isn't that expensive, how do we keep bribery or thievery by the operators of the radar guns at bay? I have no knowledge as to the pay scale of the police but I imagine it's quite low, hench, graft becomes common place.

there are still a few north, but the broken ones and the ones with big bolts sticking up out of them are gone.

I wonder how Grand Caribe gets permission to tear up the concrete road and add permanent speed bumps on both ends of their property?

Not sure how they get permission but these bumps are better made and easier to see than any of the others. Those darn pop-up ropes are killers.

Speed bumps require legal gazetting and once approved by the Town, the Ministry of Works and various other departments they can be installed. As with everything, permission takes time to be approved and actual installation is not only time consuming but also costly. So to answer WWIII's question, I imagine it took government applications, time and money on Grand Caribe's part in order to obtain permission to install the bumps. Indeed as Roberto mentioned, the larger resorts paid to ensure that the roads through their properties were installed correctly and, in the case of Belizean Shores, it also included pretty medians that the resort cares for.

Renegade speed bumps are dangerous and need regulation but speed bumps placed to slow vehicles for the purpose of creating an opportunity for street hawkers to peddle to passengers is infuriating.
