The City Council is planning some major repairs on one of the busiest stretches of street in the country. Regent Street, from in front of the Supreme Court right up to the swing bridge will be closed form Sunday august 25th to Friday September 6th.

The City Council's communication manager says it is much in need of repair:..

Tamara Minto - Communications Manager, The Belize City Council
"We're going to close from the end of the Battlefield Park to the swing bridge on Sunday August 25th and it will be closed until approximately before or on September 6th. At this time if you can notice on Regent Street It's the only section of Regent Street that the street desperately needs repair. There is no ideal time for closures such as this. It's a busy street regardless of any time of the year. It is not the most ideal time we know that it will have a lot of inconvenience for our residents but we do thank you for your support and cooperation but at this time we really find it necessary that we need to close and repair the street leading up to the swing bridge prior to the September celebrations especially because that is almost upon us. This will actually make for a much better drive downtown, no more potholes just before you come on the bridge. We will have a continuity of a better road all the way down Regent Street."

In other news from City Hall, the Council is moving into its new digs at the renovated Commercial Center.

The City council will be fully operational for service to the public at their New location on Monday August 26th.
