Dear Members, Friends and Sailing Enthusiasts,

Once again, notice of a regatta to he held at Consejo Shores. This is a switch from our usual location at Jam Rock in Corozal. We feel the waters out there are more challenging.

The date of this event is September 7th & 8th. On Saturday the first races start at 12:00 pm. On Sunday we start at 9:30 am. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

A team from Cancun is also expected. The races will consist of Optimist and Lasers. This is also the last event for our National Champion Adyaneiri 'Susie' Teck. Since this is her last Nationals for Optimist category she hopes to repeat her success. Please come out and cheer for our nine (9) CBSC sailors.

We arc planning some other activities for adults. Our food friend Alfred has just returned from Canada.

We have to plan and hammer out the details, however come on out, have a drink and enjoy the day or the weekend.

Hopefully we can bring the finish line close to shore for a more enjoyable and interactive experience.

See you all at the Condos.
Regards,
Gerard Cordts Commodore

The National Optimist Champion is 15 year old Adyanieri Teck of our Corozal Bay Sailing Club

"Belize Sailing Association held its ninth National Championship Regatta 2019 at beautiful Consejo Shores in the Corozal District. Alongside the host club Corozal Bay Sailing Club were Caye Caulker Community Sailing Club, Gales Point and Ladyville Sailing Club.

We are grateful and humbled by all our volunteers who helped in any way to make this event possible. We appreciate you all. Volunteers, there's nothing little about the light you shine.

Corozal Bay Sailing Club was awarded with a certification of recognition for their unbroken long standing commitment and dedication to the Belize Sailing Association.

The regatta got underway on Saturday September 7th around noon time, but due to the wind conditions of 1 to 2 knots we had to sit and wait. Around 3:00 p.m. the wind picked up to 3-5 knots and we were able to have two races in the Optimist Class and three races in the Laser class. We called it a day around 5:30 p.m., de-rigged and then our sailors shared in a lovely meal all seated together.

Sunday morning looked promising so we headed out and started our first race at 9:30 a.m. but after only one race for each class the wind died. So we ended the weekend with a total of three optimist races and four laser races. This produced champions, Best Boy, Best Girl and 2019 Regatta series recognition.

Optimist Best Boy - Sniejdier Tec 11 years old - Caye Caulker Community Sailing
Optimist Best Girl - Janellie Joseph 13 years old - Caye Caulker Community Sailing

That is awesome and these kids have worked really hard for these achievements. It would be nice if the whole country could participate and be represented in the National championship events. Perhaps the Belize Sailing Association will take a look at ways on how to involve more youth - previously we have seen almost 70 optimist on the water at the same time - that sure would be an awesome sight to see again.

Congrats to the champs and all participants.
