According to Briceño, the approach to effectively fight crime and prosecute criminals is multi-faceted. Not only does the prosecution needs a solid case but also strong evidence. In the case of murders, evidence such as fingerprints would be lifted or DNA samples collected to link the crime to the main suspect. A DNA forensic lab was promised years ago. The lab has yet to come to fruition even though a parcel of land has been identified and the first tranche of funding has been secured.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“We need to settle the forensic lab because that can help us to get the necessary evidence to convict these criminals. We need to be able to work with the D.P.P. so we have more trained persons so that they can assist the police in getting the evidence, statements from these criminals because in many instance what happens is when you go to court we lose the case because of some technical point. So we need to be able to strengthen that.”
