Due to many accidents happening because of these signs, the San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro Traffic Department are forced to take action to further avoid or prevent any more accidents from occurring.

Effective immediately, the San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro Traffic Department hereby advises anyone that owns a sign that is on public property which is obstructing the view of ondgoing traffic will be removed and can be picked up at the SPTC Barracks in the San Pablo area.

The SPTC is carrying out this exercise to further avoid and prevent accidents from occurring due to these signs obstructing the driver's view from on going traffic.

We hereby recommend that if you would like to place a sign to kindly advise the SPTC and get a recommendation from the SPTC prior to the installment of the sign and we strongly advise anyone to do so on private property once it is not causing any visual obstruction.

Great move by the Town Board - thank you !!

Good move Town Council, there is still a lot of work left to be done when it comes to traffic on the island. I live up north and I am tired of seeing the Town Council's heavy duty dump trucks speed on these roads. Upwards of 40mph!! On a dump truck in busy resort areas. God forbid an accident happens, the time to do something is now before something like that can occur.

Island residents are asked to kindly advise the SPTC and get permission prior to the installation of any signs. They further advise anyone wanting to put a sign on their private property to ensure that it is not causing any visual obstruction to drivers. Traffic congestion and incidents has long been an issue on Ambergris Caye, with several residents and visitors sustaining injuries. Earlier this year, the SPTD began inspecting golf cart rentals to find out if their vehicles’ speed limiters have been altered, as speeding is responsible for many accidents. If golf carts were found with this modification, the proprietors were ordered to reset the limiter before the cart can be used or rented out.

Island residents are further reminded that the assigned speed limit in downtown San Pedro is 10 Miles Per Hour (MPH), while elsewhere is 15 MPH. These speed limits are clearly stated on signs across the island. Motorists are reminded to drive with due care and to especially avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. The SPTC and SPTD are committed in ensuring islanders safety on the streets, therefore they hope that with this new measures in place, there will be less incidents.
