Tropical Weather Outlook, Saturday, October 12th 2019 at 6:00pm
- A broad area of low pressure is forming over the southwestern Caribbean Sea. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is likely over Belize early next week.
The National Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the area for any possible tropical cyclone development over the next few days.
11th Belikin Blue Water Classic
The 11th Belikin Blue Water Classic is being hosted on St George’s Caye. 31 registered vessels are all fishing for the first prize, which stands at $15,000.

The average and upper size of Bonefish continues to increase as a result of catch and release only regulations implemented 10 years ago by the Government of Belize. The tarpon fishing has remained good and there are still migratory fish around for those interested. The permit fishing is providing quite a few opportunities for those interested in pursuing. The weather has been great and providing good conditions for anglers, especially for the early morning bite.

PSWT BENEFICIARIES BACK IN COURT TO BENEFITS FROM UNIONS
It appears that the unions controlling the finances of the Public Sector Workers Trust (PSWT) are continuing to employ delay tactics to prevent the beneficiaries from receiving any benefits from the trust. A hearing which was scheduled for today October 7th was adjourned to October 21 after the union representatives' lawyer told the court that his client needed more time to consult with its membership.
The beneficiaries have been clamouring from the trust that they be paid benefits after a 1994 salary freeze. At the time the government gave public officers shareholding in BTL in which the dividends was to be distributed to affected public officers. To date there has been no benefits distributed to the beneficiaries which has been accumulating since that time.
1 Person Died – Another Injured In Punta Gorda Accident
The rains and slick roads are causing slippery skids and accidents, At approximately 6.30pm this evening an accident occurred at the Punta Gorda junction. It resulted in the death of one person. Reports are that another person has been rushed to the hospital.
Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident In Santa Elena
A motorcycle accident near CP Gas Station on the George Price Highway in Santa Elena Town on Saturday morning claimed the life Billy Lerma 26. According to Police Lerma was driving a red motorbike on the highway around 12:00 a.m on October 12th, when he crashed into a red truck that was being driven by Paul Wagner.

Charges Withdrawn against Immigration Officers
The immigration officers decided to withdraw the charges after being persuaded by the Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser to do so since it would taint their images as public officers if they were found guilty and end up spending time behind bars.
Drought Impacts the BWSL services
Over the past months Belize had experienced an extreme drought that impacted the agriculture industry in Belize. The Belize Water Services Limited, during their public meeting last night, noted that farmers were not the only ones suffering from the drought.

A 26 year old man lost his life this morning in a motorcycle accident in Santa Elena.
Billy Lerma was driving a red motor cycle on the George Price highway near CP gas station around 12:00 a.m when he crashed into a red truck.
$40,000 in counterfeit US dollars seized from Mexican National
A report from 7 News Belize is asserting that a Mexican national was busted at the Philip Goldson International airport yesterday smuggling $40,800 in counterfeit US dollars.
It is expected that authorities will bring charges against the Mexican this weekend.

Tropical systems may brew in Atlantic, East Pacific basins this week
Over the southwestern Caribbean, an area of low pressure has formed amid a broad counter-clockwise wind pattern, known as a gyre.
"This area of low pressure will track into or along the north coast of Central America early this week," Kottlowski said.
If the system's circulation remains over the warm waters of the Gulf of Honduras for a time, there will be a better chance for it to become an organized tropical system.
Drenching showers and thunderstorms are likely over portions of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize, Guatemala and the Yucatan Peninsula into Tuesday, even if an organized tropical system fails to form.
