A male resident of San Pedro Town drowned around 2PM today. Unofficial reports indicate that the victim and his friend went out to Kayak without life jackets. According to the friend, the kayak turned over so he went back to the island to seek help.
The drowning victim has been identified as 25-year-old Gustavo Lizarraga Jr, a resident of the DFC Area of San Pedro Town. Initial reports indicate that Gustavo Lizarraga Jr., along with his cousin 36 year old Roberto Lizarraga both left from the shores between Mata Rocks and Victoria House Resorts. The duo of cousins left en route to the barrier reef area south of San Pedro Town to do some fishing. The sea waves began getting bigger, causing the kayak to sink downwards leaving both cousins in open waters. Both cousins then held on the the semi floating kayak. Gustavo was unable to swim to shore therefore, Roberto swam to shore to get help while the other cousin stayed put. when the cousin arrived with help Gustavo was not in the area and after a few searches further in the sea. His body was found floating face down in the water.
