San Pedro Town will soon be the recipient of a fire truck that arrived at Belize’s Philip S.W Goldson International Airport on Wednesday, May 8th. Acquired in the United States of America (USA), through the efforts of the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, the fire truck came aboard a U.S Airforce C-17 Globemaster aircraft shortly after 2PM. Arrangements are now being made to transport the truck to the island, where it is expected to be delivered to the San Pedro Fire Department in a week or two. The fire truck is a 1983 Seagrave model and was formerly operated by Carlisle Township Fire Department in New Brunswick, Ohio, USA. The San Pedro Sun was informed that the vehicle has a 750-gallon water tank, in good condition with around 28,000 miles on it, and only four thousand miles on its transmission.

This fire truck will join the two current trucks in service on the island. Unofficial reports are that two trucks will remain at the station downtown San Pedro, while the third truck will be stationed south of town to respond better to fire emergencies. This will be the second truck donated to the San Pedro Fire Department. The most recent donation took place in December 2018, when Digi Belize handed over a new fire truck to the island’s fire department.

Would not it be so much wiser for all big or small resorts to have on site sea pumps? For use by condo owners or employees to help, until fire departments arrives?
So much water east and west, but buy the time a trucks like that comes up north or south, place is burnt to the ground.

In San Pedro, Ambergris Caye this morning, handover ceremonies took place for two fire trucks that have now been added to the fleet for the island. On hand to receive the two fire trucks was Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management (with responsibility for the National Fire Service) Honorable Edmond Castro, along with Area Representative for Belize Rural South and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon Manuel Heredia; Mayor of San Pedro Town, Daniel “Danny’ Guerrero; Assistant National Fire Chief, Benisford Matura; and Officer in Charge of Ambergris Caye, Gladstone Bucknor. The fire trucks were handed over by Brad Campbell and Mark Bakken, on behalf of Casa de la Caye Villas. Blessings were invoked by Pastor Clive Welsh of Christian Lighthouse Reef Radio; and Master of Ceremonies was Jorge Aldana. On Thursday, December 12, 2019, The San Pedro Fire Station increased its fleet from two fire trucks to FOUR fire trucks, making it the second largest fleet in the country, since it received TWO fire trucks today that was donated by Mr. Brad Campbell and Mr. Mark Brakken from Casas de la Caye Villas.

In a short ceremony, Pastor Clive Welsh offered an inspirational invocation, followed by Mayor Daniel Guerrero who welcomed everyone to the Handing Over event and expressed his sincere gratitude to Casas De La Caye Villas for their contribution towards the community. In his speech, the Mayor emphasized on the importance of these vehicles as one will be stationed in North Ambergris Caye and the other in South Ambergris Caye.

After the Mayor's welcome address, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. also expressed his gratitude towards the donation. Joining the speeches was Hon. Edmund Castro, Minister of Transport and NEMO, who stated that the town of San Pedro is indeed developing rapidly and this donation will definitely be of great use in case of an emergency. Minister Castro also supported the Mayor's request in upgrading the personnel of the Fire Department and instilling a fire fighter volunteer program involving the residents of San Pedro Town.

Lastly to share some remarks was a representative of Casas de la Caye Villas, Mr. Richard Scott, who handed over the keys and was delighted to be a part of this moment.

After Mr. Scott's it was time for the cutting of the ribbon. Gathered behind a big red bow that linked both trucks, which was done by Hon. Edmund Castro, Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Senior Fire Chief of Belize, Mr. Benisford Matura, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Mr. Richard Scott and Chief Gladstone Bucknor.

After the presentation of the trucks, the Senior fire Official, Mr. Benisford Matura also expressed his gratitude towards the much needed donation.

The ceremony ended with Mr. Matura's speech and proceed with a test run of the two trucks. The firemen checked everything was up and running and blasted out the siren for all to hear.

Thanks once again to Mr. Brad Campbell and Mr. Mark Brakken from Casas de la Caye Villas for this great donation.

We would also like to thank everyone that assisted the event.
