Wolfe’s Woofer: Halloween Costume
“Did you enjoy the Halloween party?” I asked Nicole. “You wouldn’t believe how much,” she said. Ed and Nicole were supposed to meet me at my favorite beachside restaurant at seven o’clock. She closed her shop a little early so we were having a drink while we waited for Ed. “I decided not to go,” she continued. “I had a bad headache but Ed loves those costume parties so I told him to go ahead by himself.

Doctor Love: Not the Daddy
Dear Doctor Love, My girlfriends’ children are spoilt and rude little girls who bully their mother into giving them what ever they want. I was brought up by parents who expected me to treat them with respect and learn good manners. These girls are barely in preschool and they sass and fight with their mother about everything. The problem is that if I try to stop them my girlfriend gets mad at me. She reminds me that I am not their father and says it’s her job to parent her children.

Manatee Tours
Often called “sea cows”, these graceful creatures are found abundantly in Belize. These mammals are sometimes described as ancient mermaids; they have a paddle-like tail, round body and a small face – which can be compared to that of a seal. Belize has the highest rate of Antillean manatees in the world; at approximately 1,000 manatees, this number is slowly growing due to all the protection efforts for this species of endangered mammal.

Why Invest in Belize?
While Belize began as nothing more than a rural country by the Caribbean, it has since evolved and matured into one of the most vivacious centers for tourism and investment within all of Central America. Strong tourism numbers mean that more people are coming to visit with money they set aside for their vacation. 2016 saw a 44% spike in overnight visitors when compared to figures from 2017 and 2018 which showed an even greater number, indicative of a 10% shift. A lot of this growth is thanks to the four biggest American airlines, and the two leading Canadian airlines, featuring direct flights to Belize. The cruise industry has also had some role in these numbers, as more liners come to port.

The Best Hotels and Resorts in the Caribbean and Atlantic Islands: The 2020 Gold List
This year’s Gold List of our editors’ favorite hotels, resorts, and cruise ships in the world is created by teams in New York and London. It spans six continents and 49 countries. They’re gold as in exceptional. Gold as in classic. Gold as in brilliant. Gold as in you’d do it all tomorrow. Of the Coppola clan’s two exceptional ecolodges in Belize, the mangrove-encircled Turtle Inn, in the fishing village of Placencia, is where their cinematic vision really kicks in: thatched cottages with hand-carved Balinese doors, rustic-Italian dishes flavored with items from the organic garden, and a private castaway island, Coral Caye, with hammocks for post- snorkel naps.

Ray Caye, A Private Island Resort, Debuts In Belize
There are a handful of small private island resorts scattered off the coast of Belize, the ultimate getaways for beachgoers seeking peace and quiet in a stunning tropical setting. Seasoned beachgoers like to say that these islands are the way that much of the Caribbean used to be, before mass tourism came along. Now there’s a new resort, Ray Caye Island Resort, that’s set to open in January 2020. Named after the spotted eagle rays that swim along its shores, the island is 18 miles off the coast off Placencia Village, an hour long boat ride away. Formerly a resort known as Hatchet Caye, the island was purchased in 2018 and rebranded as Ray Caye Island Resort in January of 2019 and has undergone a year-long transformation. Set on 7.4 acres, this private island oasis has a full mile of pristine shoreline and guests have unlimited use of the resort’s non-motorized water toys.

Having Helped Discover Belize’s Only Commercial Wells, Susan Morrice Envisions Its Post-Oil Future
For most people, Belize conjures images of an island paradise. But since the 1930s, almost all of the big players in the industry – Exxon, Shell, Phillips, Chevron – have gone to the tiny Caribbean nation in the elusive search for oil. After drilling fifty wells, all of which were dry holes, the general consensus was there was no oil to found in commercial quantities. At least not until 2005 when Belize Natural Energy (BNE), a small company with only enough money to drill two exploratory wells, struck oil. But the company’s origins go back much farther than that. Having gone to Belize on holiday, Irishwoman Susan Morrice, then a young geologist, was working in the U.S. when she received a phone call in 1983 or ’84 from British oilman Sir Ian Rankin, 4th Baronet.
