Are they still bitin'? I'm coming down July 3-14 and would prefer they not be there.

I just got home from AC and I'm happy to report that after more than 20 dives, I didn't get any. I think that some people are more suseptible than others. Good luck and enjoy!

Pica pica = itchy itchy [Linked Image]

Pica pica are the larval form of the thimble jellyfish. And jellyfish have "nematocysts," a microscopic stinging device triggered by touch. Sea lice, the larval form of the jellyfish, can also sting, especially if trapped between a bathing suit and the skin.

As Marty pointed out, Pica Pica has a season. You may recall that I told you that if asked, I would have said that mid-April was the best time to dive Belize. However, that is Pica Pica season. I was lucky and never encountered any on my trip. A friend of mine was in Coz at that same time. We met up in Belize at the end of my vacation. My friend was absolutely covered in welts. Looked terrible, felt worse.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Sounds aweful. Is there anyway to protect yourself when diving? Is a dive skin thick enough? Knowing my dive partner & I, we will dive anyway and just suffer through it.

Check out www.nidaria.com

A skin is helpful but the problem is if the pica pica can get in between whatever you are wearing and your skin and that apparently makes it worse. Maybe you'll get lucky like I did and not encounter any.

The other thing that you can do when you are diving, is just before you are going to surface purge your octo. That kind of makes a hole for you to surface in as the jellies or larva get blown out to the edges of the purge blast.

I understood Hey Jude to say they were going in late March, the beginning of pica pica season.
