The Caribbean Sea

Strong high pressure is centered north of the area over the western Atlantic. 1010 mb low pressure is centered over northeast Colombia, and pressure is falling over the western Gulf of Mexico. The pressure gradient over the Caribbean is tight enough with this pattern to support strong to near gale force off Colombia, and strong winds as well off Honduras. Seas in these areas are reaching 8 to 10 ft. Seas are 4 to 6 ft in the eastern Caribbean, and 6 to 8 ft elsewhere. Scattered thunderstorm were active off the coast of western Panama and Costa Rica, but these have been diminishing lately. Isolated showers embedded in the trade wind flow are noted across the Leeward Islands, northern Windward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Smoke from agricultural fires onshore may be limiting visibility off Honduras, Belize, and Mexico.

The high pressure north of the area will maintain fresh to strong winds off Honduras and Colombia through late Tue, pulsing to near gale force off Colombia to again tonight. Winds and seas will start to diminish by the middle of the week as the high pressure weakens and shifts eastward.

A hot day yesterday and a hot night. I think due to this smoke haze. Which this morning is even larger area, over the coast of Honduras, Belize and the Yucatan. I just hope the mid-level north going air flow takes much of that smoke away from Belize. There is one area of ITCZ swell up and rain, over Salvador this morning.

Looks as if it could be another hot, uncomfortable day, with smoke haze holding the heat in, no rain expected.

It is now over 101°F in Belmopan. There are a few clouds starting to develop near San Ignacio area. Could they develop in a few small rain areas. ? On looking, I don't think so. Not much obvious air movement, except the easterly Caribbean air movement.

The entire Benque area is covered in smoke.

From a friend in Cayo....
Here on east bank of Macal, many fires around also. raging in Pilgrimage Valley - and hopefully not heading to us. Too close for comfort. Last year the Friday after Easter, my house nearly burned down. Lost thousands in fencing and many producing fruit trees. Meant to do control fires this year, but then the darned virus.

===========

Current air quality conditions considered harmful to human health. While the current high levels are not unusual for the Belize dry season, this year seems to be worse than average and reminiscent of the disastrous 2011 season. Note: Everyone can access these live data by going to www.purpleair.com

IN SAN IGNACIO 105 Degrees HEAT, BUT FEELING LIKE 110 Degrees. BLACK MAN EDDY some twelve miles East of San Ignacio its 106.

ON THIS EASTER MONDAY 13th OF APRIL 2020, AT 2.00 PM, THE TEMPERATURE, AT THE FOOT HILLS OF THE MAYA MOUNTAIN RECORDED 108 Degrees Fahregnheit. THE YALBAC HILLS ON THE OPPOSITE , JUST SOME FIVE MILES ACROSS, IS COVERED WITH LIGHT BLUE HAZE.
