Controversial game between San Pedro Pirates and Altitude FC ends in 2-2 draw

Under rain and muddy conditions, the San Pedro Pirates faced Altitude FC on Saturday, March 7th, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, in southern Belize. The game was a tough battle for the win, but at the sound of the long whistle, the football action ended in a 2-2 draw.

At the end of the game, San Pedro Pirates ended with four of its players (Dixon Paguada, Asrel Sutherland, Jesse Smith, and Jorge Nuez) expelled via red cards. The management of the team found these callings questionable, along with the officiating of the game. They claim that Altitude's second goal was illegal as the player was offside, something the referee apparently missed. The San Pedro Pirates feel that they were treated unfairly and have since written to the National Football Federation. They wait to see if their complaints will be taken into consideration.

The rest of this season's games in the PLB have been cancelled

The Premier League of Belize (PLB) held a virtual conference on the 18th April. 2020 with the Executive Committee and Club Owners of the participating Closing Season competition to discuss the way forward as it related to the 2019/2020 Closing Season. It was unanimously agreed upon by the Club Owners that the Closing Season would be cancelled due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the imminent challenges that would have been experienced due to the Curren economic crisis. The League was also of the opinion that the safety of our players, officials, fans and stakeholders also had to be taken in consideration.

It was also agreed upon during that conference that Verdes FC will be the Club to represent our jewel Belize at the CONCACAF League Championship. that decision was made on the premise whereby Verdes FC had won the 2019/2020 Opening Season Championship. and was the aggregate points leader (51 points) at the initial juncture when the 2020 Closing Season was suspended.

The League would like to take this opportunity to appeal to the football family and by extension to the conununity. to continue to take all precautionary measure necessary to ensure that we all remain safe.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this decision may have caused.
