The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) in the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce hereby informs the public that effective today, May 13th, 2020, new fixed controlled prices will be introduced for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This change now reflects the sale by wholesale volume and retail sale by volume in both urban and rural areas.

Of note, is that this price adjustment reflects an increase in the acquisition price of LPG. This spike in acquisition is precipitated by cutbacks in production in major producing countries such as the United States, Mexico, Russia and OPEC.

The public is advised that the prices established for imported LPG are based on the mixtures of 70:30 (Propane: Butane) only as per requirement of the Belize National Standard Specification for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) BZS 21:2012.

For further information, kindly contact the office of the Belize Bureau of Standards at 822-0446, 822-0447 or via email at [email protected] or [email protected].

Butane Goes Up

There is a new, increased price for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which is better known locally as butane.
In all 6 districts, butane will wholesale for $2.64 per gallon. In all the urban areas of Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Benque Viejo Del Carmen, Orange Walk Town, Corozal Town, Dangriga, and Punta Gorda, the cooking gas will retail for 96 cents per pound and $4.24 per gallon. Last month, the retail prices in these same areas were 88 cents per pound and $3.86 per gallon.

In all the rural areas countrywide, butane will retail at 99 cents per pound or $4.34 per gallon. Last month the retail prices for these same areas were 90 cents per pound or $3.96 per gallon.

The Bureau of Standards explains that this month's increase in retail prices is due to an increase in acquisition prices for LPG.

The increase of BZ $ 0.38 per gallon for the month of October is attributed to a combination of supply issues as US stock levels continue to dwindle in the face of strong external demand.
