Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

GOES-16 satellite imagery shows that dense Saharan dust covers central and western Caribbean. The dry and stable air mass that accompanies the dust is helping to bring hazy conditions to the area, and is suppressing convection over these areas. The dust is a little less dense over the eastern Caribbean. There is enough moisture to support low topped tradewind showers across the eastern Caribbean.

Strong to near gale force winds prevail over the south central Caribbean. Fresh to strong winds prevail across the Gulf of Honduras. Moderate to fresh winds prevail across much of the rest of the Caribbean, except in the lee of Cuba where light to gentle winds prevail.

Fresh to strong trades will prevail across the south central Caribbean through the remainder of the week and weekend. Winds will pulse to near gale force off the coast of Colombia each night through Sun night with seas building to 12 ft and higher during the strongest winds. Fresh to strong winds are expected to continue across the Gulf of Honduras through Sat night.

The Sahara dust is fulling the Caribbean and going over north Belize. but missing most of central and southern regions. The Caribbean easterly winds are producing a lot of cloud over most of Belize, humidity is up in the 92% or so. Only a few patches of high level from the NW causing any clashing, which did cause a few isolated rain over night.

Looks as if today will be another mainly cloudy day, occasional sunshine, a significant chance of rain showers.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last night min. 27°C 80°F Yesterday max. 32°C 89°F Yesterday Rain 4 mm ( 0.2") This morning Humidity 92% @ 86°F

Saharan Air Layer (SAL) Advisory

(Updated 9 am, 24 June, 2020) Dense dust concentrations has increased over the area with higher amounts expected later today and tomorrow before a temporary reduction is expected on Friday.

The SAL will continue to produce hazy and dusty conditions, decreased visibility and reduced air quaility over Belize through to next week.

Persons with respiratory or heart disease, elderly persons or children should take precaution, stay hydrated, wear protective gear and avoid outdoor activities as much as possible and seek advice from your health care provider to stay adequately protected from the dusty and dry conditions.
