The IA/NICH is pleased to announce the reopening of the Cave Archaeological Reserves. The Nohoch Che'en, Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM), and the Barton Creek coon will now be brought on stream and reopened for public visitation on 3 August 2020 subject to the following adjustment in operation:

Smaller tour groups at ATM
Enhanced sanitization of tour equipment
Limits on the non-essential persons on the Reserve

Effective immediately the IA/NICH is discontinuing the policy of Belizeans Free-of-Charge on Sundays and Public and Bank Holidays at the Nohoch Che'en and Barton Creek Archaeological Reserves
All visitors shall pay the required $10.00 BZ entrance fee regardless if they are only going to swim

All IA/NICH ticketing staff are required to wear a mask for facial protection and gloves to handle cash
At IA/NICH staff are required to wear their mask while interacting with visitors
The IA/NICH reserves the right to refuse entry to any individual who exhibits any flu or flu-like symptoms
Visitors must maintain the required social distance and wear face mask where applicable as per law
Restroom use will be supervised to ensure that visitors maintain the required 6 feet social distance and prevent the congregation of visitors in restricted spaces
Restrooms/ticket counters, door handles, handrails and other hard surfaces will be regularly sanitized throughout the day

Details for the specific Cave Archaeological Reserves:

The park staff shall monitor the numbers of and interval of canoes entering the cave

The guest to tour guide ratio will be reduced from 1:8 to 1:4
There shall be a 10-minute interval between groups of guest proceeding on the trail
The Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve remains the ticketing point for tours to ATM
The ticketing protocol remains the same with the exception that Cahal Pech now operates from 8 am to 5 pm daily
Tickets can still be purchased at 2pm for use on the following day only

The guest to tour guide ratio shall remain at 8:1
Each giftshop shall be limited to only one person per unit
Tube spaces are allowed only two persons per unit
The IA/NICH will absolutely enforce all non-essential persons on the Reserve
All vendors shall be required to wear facial protection and have a hand sanitizer station at their respective giftshop
Tube spaces shall have a sanitization drum stationed at their unit to sanitize equipment after each use
The tour guides group shall organize themselves in a rotation to have no more than 10 guides stationed on the reserve at any one time
The IA/NICH will absolutely enforce all non- essential tour guides on site
Tour guides shall adhere to all Covid 19 safety protocols
