Advisories: *Residents, especially those inland are advised to stay hydrated and to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.*
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today and clear to partly cloudy tonight. The weather will be mainly fair and showers or thunderstorms will be isolated and brief in nature.

Sargassum Forecast from September 1, 2020 to September 02, 2020: Latest observations show a few Sargassum mats offshore and along coastal areas of the country. There is a high chance of these mats landing on local beaches in the coming days producing moderate impacts. San Pedro has a high probability and a moderate expected impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: A broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave over the central Caribbean Sea has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression during the next couple of days. This system is moving quickly westward and will continue to be monitored by the National Meteorological Service of Belize. At 3:00 am the center of Tropical Depression Fifteen was located near latitude 34.1N, longitude 74.4W or about 10 miles SE of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Click for more...

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There is a potential for tropical cyclone development over the central Caribbean Sea.

A surface trough is moving across the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rica and Mona Passage this morning, as well as the far northeast Caribbean. A few showers are noted in that area this morning. Fresh NE winds were observed ahead of the trough in the Windward Passage on an earlier scatterometer satellite pass. These winds will diminish through the morning as the trough approaches.

Moderate winds and 3 to 5 ft seas are noted elsewhere across the Caribbean. Fresh easterly winds and 4 to 6 ft seas will persist over the north central Caribbean through mid week, expanding into the south central Caribbean and increasing by Sat as high pressure builds north of the area.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the wind and sea are calming and it's shaping up to be a beautiful day to be outside.

Our night time temperatures have been consistently noticeably higher than normal for the last 3 months, day time maximums have been almost normal for the last 3 months, after the higher than normal for Apr & May, but the last two weeks have bee significantly hotter than normal. These temperatures should be starting to drop during September, lets hope so.

That collection of cloud and ITCZ swellups continues to come our way and is now passing Jamaica with a fair bit of rain areas, but only a tiny hint of any rotation, the hurricane people still only refer to it as INVEST 99L an area to watch, 40 mph max winds, 1005 mb which is only slightly below the normal 1013 mb This area should be getting to most of Belize sometime around this evening and night. The present indication is that it will bring some much needed rain to many parts of Belize, more so for central and north. Our average rain for August was spot on, but early in the month, following very low for Jul.

Looks as if today will be another hot day, with clouds developing during the morning, a few heavy down south, where there might already be a little rain in southern Torledo. .. . Possible some rain late this evening, from 99L

This iPhone pic does not do this scene justice. It’s a gorgeous evening here in Ambergirs Caye. We might not see tomorrow’s full moon due to deteriorating weather conditions. Sending out a prayer for Belize, hoping for the best possible outcome. Photo by the Ambergris Today
