Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

A moist pattern prevails across the Caribbean in the wake of Nana. Satellite-derived precipitable water values show very high deep layer moisture over most of the basin. Clusters of showers and thunderstorms are observed in a large swath from the southern Windward Islands to almost northeast Nicaragua. under diffluent flow aloft. Showers and thunderstorms are also active west of Grand Cayman and south of western Cuba, on the east side of an upper trough. The track of Nana has temporarily interrupted the usual trade wind patterns in the Caribbean. This is leaving the normally rainy southwest Caribbean mostly rain free. Fresh trade winds and 4 to 6 ft seas are possible off southern Hispaniola, but elsewhere gentle to moderate winds are noted, with light and variable breezes in the southwest Caribbean.

E swell in the northwest Caribbean will subside through the morning. The Caribbean will gradually revert back to its normal pattern over the next several days with moderate to fresh trade winds mainly over the central part of the basin.

A broad area of low pressure located over the eastern tropical
Atlantic several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde
Islands is producing a small area of disorganized showers and
thunderstorms. Gradual development is possible early next week as
the larger tropical wave located off of the coast of Africa passes
to the north of the system on Sunday.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

A tropical wave located off the coast of west Africa is merging with another disturbance located a couple of hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands, resulting in an extensive area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development of this system is likely to be slow during the next couple of days while it moves west- northwestward at about 15 mph, and a tropical depression is more likely to form early next week over the central tropical Atlantic where environmental conditions are forecast to be more favorable for development.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.

Another tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of
Africa over the weekend. An area of low pressure is expected to
form from the wave, and some development of this low will be
possible early next week while it moves generally westward over the
far eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

After passing Roatan Island HURRICANE NANA came ashore, at midnight, as just Cat.1 ( 75mph) over, or very close to Placencia. Brief period of strong winds and 12mm rain over Belmopan, about the same time.

Above image as the storm arrived.

In Succotz, I had there were gusts and sprinkles at 12:30 am off and on for about 45 minutes. For those hoping to fill their water reservoirs, that did not happen.

There is still some heavy cloud over southern Toledo, but the rain will be dying out down there shortly.
Central and Northern Belize has bright sunshine and only a little thin, high level clouds.
There is now, a lot of heavy cloud out in the Caribbean, some of which will come to Belize over the next few days.

Looks as if today will be mainly sunny for most of Belize, still some rain in the south, some cloud will be building this morning.

You can see here, how the Caribbean is full of rain type clouds, or part of the seasonal ITCZ activity.
The ITCZ is more clearly shown over the Pacific here. . The top elongated circle is the North part of Inter Tropical Convergence, and the lower circle the South part of Inter Tropical convergence, when tropical rising air in both hemispheres meet up with each other and push each other up high. . . Rather more complicated over the Caribbean, due to South America, which also has its own cloud making effects. As the Sun moves further south, this ITCZ activity will reduce.

So we are likely to get more rain over the next couple of weeks.

From Crown Weather:

I continue to keep an eye on the possibility that we could see some sort of tropical development in either the northwestern Caribbean or the eastern Gulf of Mexico starting during the early part of next week.

It looks like a tropical wave now located over the central Caribbean is expected to reach the northwestern Caribbean by late this weekend into early next week where some of the model guidance suggest that this system may try to develop.

At this point, only the ICON, a couple of GFS Parallel ensemble members and a handful of European ensemble members show tropical development first near the Yucatan Channel around Sunday into Monday that moves into the eastern Gulf of Mexico around the middle part of next week.

I think that what may occur is that when the tropical wave now over the central Caribbean reaches the northwestern Caribbean, it will try to combine with a piece of energy left behind by a departing frontal system and its associated upper level trough of low pressure. This could lead to some sort of tropical mischief that moves from the northwestern Caribbean early next week to the eastern Gulf of Mexico during the middle part of next week.

The eastern and central Tropical Atlantic is quite active today in the way of tropical disturbances. There are currently 3 tropical disturbances that require close scrutiny, although, their interaction with each other continues to make for a challenging and uncertain forecast.

Present Condition: Cloudy in the south, clear in the north. A relatively brief period of dry conditions exist over the area, behind Nana.
24hr Forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells during the daytime and partly cloudy to cloudy tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will be isolated this afternoon and then a few more will occur mainly over toledo and some coastal areas tonight and tomorrow morning.

*A flood warning is in effect for communities near rivers and streams in the south.* A small craft caution is in effect for occasional gusty winds and locally rough seas.

Belize is "All Clear" following Hurricane Nana's landfall last night as a weak Category 1.
Besides the need of little beach clean up, Ambergris Caye received no damage. We are truly blessed!
