Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

An upper level cyclone circulation center is in central sections of Nicaragua. Upper level cyclonic wind flow covers the Caribbean Sea from 70W westward. Precipitation: isolated moderate to locally strong covers the Caribbean Sea from 13N northward from 70W westward.

The monsoon trough is along 10N/11N, from 73W in northern Colombia beyond northern sections of Costa Rica, into the eastern Pacific Ocean. Precipitation: scattered moderate to widely scattered strong is within 100 nm to the north of the monsoon trough between 75W and 77W. Isolated moderate to locally strong is elsewhere from 13N southward from 70W westward.

Comparatively drier air in subsidence is apparent in water vapor satellite imagery within 400 nm to 700 nm to the west of Hurricane Teddy. Some of this drier air borders the NE Caribbean Sea and its islands. A second area of comparatively drier air is in the Caribbean Sea, within 500 nm to the SE of Hispaniola, and then curving toward the southern half of the eastern Caribbean Sea islands. Precipitation: isolated moderate from 15N to 18N between 64W and 68W, between the two areas of comparatively drier air in subsidence.

Major Hurricane Teddy will move northward away from tropical Atlantic waters for the rest of the week. Long- period northeasterly swell generated by Teddy are expected to impact most of the central Atlantic through the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Teddy, located over the central tropical Atlantic, and on Tropical Depression Twenty-Two, located over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands have increased during the past several hours. Earlier satellite-derived wind data indicated that this system does not yet have a well-defined center, but it is producing winds near tropical-storm-force to its east. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for additional development during the next day or two and a tropical depression or tropical storm could form before the end of the week. This system is forecast move west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph through the weekend.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent.

A small low pressure system is embedded within a larger non-tropical low. Although showers and thunderstorms associated with the smaller low are showing signs of organization, the system will soon move inland over Portugal and further tropical or subtropical development is unlikely. The low is producing gale-force winds, and will likely bring gusty winds and brief periods of heavy rain to portions of western Portugal today and tonight. For more information about potential hazards in Portugal, please see products issued by the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA). For more information about marine hazards associated with this system, see High Seas Forecasts issued by Meteo France.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

Post-tropical cyclone Paulette is located several hundred miles north-northwest of the Azores. The cyclone is forecast to move quickly southward for the next several days and then stall over marginally warm waters a few hundred miles south or south-southwest of the Azores by the end of the weekend. The cyclone could subsequently redevelop tropical characteristics late this weekend or early next week while it moves little.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

Another tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa by early Saturday. Some gradual development of the system will be possible thereafter while it moves generally west-northwestward over the far eastern Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

Despite our sunny weather, there is a lot of ITCZ activity around, but it has been over Nicaragua, Honduras and most of the Yucatan, but missed Belize, these last two days. The easterly Caribbean winds are trying to start up, presently a little up north, but more as the day warms up.

Looks as if today will be another sunny day, but there is always the chance of significant ITCZ swellups this afternoon or evening.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last night min. 28C 82F Yesterday max. 34C 92F Yesterday Rain 2.5 mm ( 0.1")

Cloud forming fairly rapidly now, due to some mid level cloud pushing in from the west, against the non existent Caribbean wind.
Looks as if there will be some swellups occurring over the next few hours, possibly in many different places.
