The Caribbean Sea

A stationary front over the Greater Antilles is inducing scattered moderate to locally strong convection over and near these islands.

Scattered moderate convection associated with the Pacific monsoon trough is occurring off the Panama and Colombia coasts, S of 12N.

The upper level wind flow that is in the Caribbean Sea from 70W westward is moving away from an upper level ridge, and toward an inverted trough. The trough is in the western sections of the Caribbean Sea, from the Yucatan Peninsula toward northern sections of Colombia.

Northerly swell previously generated by Hurricane Teddy and an early season cold front in the western Atlantic has arrived in Atlantic passages and will continue into Thu night. Mainly gentle to moderate trade winds will dominate the basin through the forecast period, with the exception of moderate to fresh winds near the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Post-Tropical Cyclone Teddy, located about 125 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and has issued the last advisory on Post-Tropical Cyclone Paulette, located several hundred miles east-southeast of the Azores. The Weather Prediction Center is issuing advisories on Post-Tropical Cyclone Beta located just inland along the central Texas coast.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.

A relatively quiet period coming to the Atlantic

Jeff Masters

None of the top three models for forecasting tropical cyclone genesis are predicting formation of any new Atlantic tropical cyclones over the coming five days. As IBM meteorologist Michael Ventrice tweeted on Sunday, the Atlantic this week is experiencing passage of an atmospheric disturbance called a convectively suppressed Kelvin wave, which creates dry, sinking air unfavorable for tropical storm formation.

Consider that respite a break after seeing 10 named storms form this month - an all-time record for the month of September.

The next name on the Atlantic list of storms is Gamma. Let's hope we don't see it until October.

Not much air movement around Belize at present, but there is a surface "Tiger" wind from the SW There are a fair amount of clouds in the Caribbean, coming our way and might effect ou r weather over the next day or two.

Looks like today will be another hot, sunny day with clouds developing later this morning and could be the odd swellup this afternoon or evening. Temperatures are still way above normal for this time of the year.
