Belize Weather Forecast: September 25, 2020


General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly cloudy. Conditions have become moist and unstable over the area.
Advisories: *A small craft caution is in effect for occasionally gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms.*
24-hour forecast: Cloudy at times along with a few showers and thunderstorms occurring mostly over coastal and offshore areas this morning, then over inland areas this afternoon. Tonight, thunderstorms and showers will increase to affect most areas, but especially the south, coastal and offshore areas.
Winds: E-SE, 5-15 kts
Sea State: Slight
Waves: 1-3 ft.
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 87
Outlook: For Saturday and Saturday night: Is for a few showers and thunderstorms mostly over coastal areas in the morning, spreading to affect northern and inland areas anddecreasing in the afternoon; then again over southern areas in the night.
Sargassum Forecast from September 22, 2020 to September 30, 2020: No significant amounts of sargassum was seen over the area on the latest satellite imagery. However, there is still the chance for smaller mats to affect the country in the coming days with minimal impacts. San Pedro has a low probability and a minimal expected impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, during the next 48 hours. Click for more...

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

A trough extends across the Greater Antilles from Hispaniola to Cuba, remnants of an Atlantic cold front. The eastern extension of a monsoon trough in the Eastern Pacific Ocean from 10N84W to 09N78W to 10N73W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted in the western Caribbean from 15N to 18N between 81W and 89W. A cluster of moderate to strong convection is near the coast of Colombia, within 90 nm of 12N76W. Isolated showers elsewhere across the basin.

Moderate to fresh trade winds are expected in the central Caribbean through Tue, becoming fresh to strong near the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela this weekend. Gentle to moderate winds expected elsewhere across the area.

The Weather Prediction Center has issued its last advisory on Post-Tropical Cyclone Beta, centered inland over the southeastern United States.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.

That Caribbean cloud I mentioned previously combined with other cloud off Honduras and we had heavy cloud and probably heavy rains just off the coast, perhaps some one southern parts of land. But that cloud is now both moving away and thinning, so now just causing hazy sunshine over most of Belize. Presently no indication of more rain, but normal clouds will start to develop later this morning, so there could still be swellups this afternoon, and or evening.

Looks like today will start of with hazy sun, high level cloud, then normal clouds and could have some rain patches this afternoon.

Present Condition: Partly cloudy, mostly clear in San Pedro. Relatively moist and unstable conditions prevail.
24hr Forecast: Cloudy spells with a few showers and thunderstorms around the country, especially over inland areas this afternoon, then over the south and along the coast tonight and tomorrow morning.

Flood Report and Forecast | September 25, 2020

River Conditions

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek and downstream at Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas levels are nonnal and steady. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia levels are nomial and steady.

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER. reservoir levels are below the spillways at Chalillo Mollejon and Vaca facilities. At San Ignacio, levels are below the low-level bridge and steady. The MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town is nonnal and steady. On the BELIZE RIVER, levels at Banana Bank and Double Run are normal and steady. On the CROOKED TREE LAGOON levels remain below the causeway and steady.

REGION 11 - River levels on the SIBUN RIVER near Freetown Sibun is normal steady. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village is normal and steady. The SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge is normal and steady. The Swasey and Bladen branch of the MONKEY RIVER is above normal and falling slowly. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls are near normal and falling slowly. The MOHO RIVER at Jordan is above nonnal and receding and at Blue Creek South, river levels are normal and steady. Levels on the TEMASH RIVER near Clique Sarco is near nonnal and receding slowly.

REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER levels are above normal and steady.

WEEKEND FLOOD FORECAST

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek and downstream at Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas levels are expected to approach above normal stage. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia levels are expected to approach to above nonnal.

REGION 9 - No significant changes are expected.

REGION 11 - Levels are expected to approach above normal on the SIBUN RIVER near Freetown Sibun. On the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village normal and steady levels are expected. The SITTEE RIVER near Kendal Bridge is expected to approach above normal. Above normal stage on the Bladen branch of the MONKEY RIVER is expected to rise slowly. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at Sari Pedro Columbia and Big Falls are expected to approach above normal stage. On the MOHO RIVER at Jordan and Blue Creek South, is expected to rise to near bankfull stage. Levels on the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco are expected to approach to above normal stage.

REGION 13 - No significant changes are expected.

The next Flood Report and Forecast will be issued on Monday September 28, 2020 at 12 noon.
