Aspiring Prime Minister and B.N.T.U. President Elena Smith are at odds again and it all started on Facebook over a question Smith posted on her page. In our newscast on Tuesday, we ran an interview with the chairman of the village of Camalote, Derrick Parham, who is against the naming of a pre-school in the village after Betty Brown Pott, whose identity, he claimed, was not known in the village. Smith queried on FB about Betty Brown Pott and whose mother she is. Smith’s question gave rise to Faber’s anger and he responded with the speed of lighting quickly telling Smith, “your comment about my mother shows the kind of low life that you are…. I’ll leave you to God. I’m the kind of leader that will not allow an idiot to disrespect my mother.” In a “takedown” post, Smith held back no punches and said that, “Any person who acts like a petty, spoilt brat does not deserve to be in the position you are aspiring for. You are certainly behaving like you wear a skirt. A damn bully is what you are but you nor any of your cronies who scrutinize my FB page will bully me into being silent. They will be fooled and intimidated but I won’t. You want to fight with me on a personal level, bring it on. This is one woman your hands will not touch. And your fowl, arrogant self does not intimidate me one bit.” This afternoon Smith told News Five that her question was legit without any bad intentions. As for her pointed response to Faber, she says she does not regret it.
Elena Smith, National President, B.N.T.U.
“I always say when people make those kind of comments, it takes on to know one. So I was raised by grandmother and my grandmother thought me to be respectful to everyone but she also thought not to accept disrespect. I was thought to fear God but not to feat ay bully. I do not regret my response any at all because as I said I was merely questioning something and in my view he took it the other. Whether he was upset, whether he was tired, whatever is his excuse. He took it to the extreme and I will not sit back and tolerate anybody, I don’t care who it is whether it is P.U.P., U.D.P., N.I.P., or whatever P you are I will not anybody to disrespect me in that manner. I have no idea who Betty Brown Pott was. I have no idea that Betty Brown and Betty Brown Pott was the same person and the person was the mother of the ministry. So If I may Marisol, not in my post or in any other instance have I said anything negative, rude or disrespectful abut Miss Pott.”
“So what was the purpose of posing the question because you did say the name sounded familiar? What was the purpose?”
“Right so I heard on the news the chairman talking about what was transpiring and what they wanted about the situation. So I said I know the mother’s name is Pott so I thought well maybe it could be related to the husband, somebody who is politically connected in the village that they might be giving that person because of politics the name but I did not associate the name Betty Brown with his mother.”
“Do you believe that you failed to see the broader picture that school is being built for preschoolers in the area but you focused on the name of the building itself?”
“Who was focusing on the name?”
“You are the one who posed the question.”
“So to ask a question is means to question why the school is there, why build a school and that sort of thing? Those are two different things. Has the school been built already? At any point in time did anybody hear me say that we don’t want a school? We have never said that.”
“Could you however exhibited restraint in your response to his response and leave it there without the back and forth on social media?”
“You come again with back and forth? Where was the back and forth? There was no back and forth. The minister sent me a WhatsApp message and I said to him that I will make it public and his response to me was, go ahead.”
